stratdancer. Thanks for the link, very informative. Researching pedals right now and this pedal caught my ear.

Your welcome. I got real interest when I saw it in DD's signal chain. They are under 100.00 used so not a big expense. I've got a Love Eternity clone with multiple clipping diode switching and a TS9 that has been modded. All of those I've tried for surf and they both cut the bass and boost the mids therefor greatly color the tone. I'm sure there are better choices but as I said I instantly liked the sound of the OCD.

Got one to add some dirt and thickness while using EP booster as always on, sound forming pedal
Tried to put it after booster - tooo much gain and compression
Now tesing it before booster but still the way too loud and gainy even with gain and volume on 9
Any advice? Love how it generally sounds but still unsure Confused
Not ready to leave EP booster off cause that’s just the clean sound I want but sometimes need more dirt...

It looks from the picture that you are running the EP very hot, at like 4 o'clock. I found that the ep sounds best when it is barely on. Then I would try bringing the gain down on the OCD and playing with the volume control. Have you changed any of the dip switches on the EP Boost?

Thanks, I will try lowering the boost! I use EP booster in vintage settings with both off

It all depends on what type of sound you are after I guess. When I first bought the OCD I was chasing a bit of edgy grit but eventually I pulled the OCD because of the mid boost nature of it like most OD pedals. Today I use the MXR Super Badass Distortion that has individual bass, mid and treble controls and allows you to pull basically the exact same tone as your normal sound. I use it as a lead boost with the distortion almost completely off and the volume almost all the way up. Badger turned me onto it over a year ago and it's the first OD pedal I've had for surf that doesn't color my tone and allows me to have zero to as mush grit as I want.

For transparent light drive/boost a lot of folks seem to swear by the Timmy. I have a cheap Chinese pedal that is allegedly based on the Timmy, the Caline CP-12 Pure Sky Overdrive. The Caline Pure Sky OD has the typical volume and gain, but also has bass and treble pots which is nice. I will say, it does a great job as a transparent clean boost and light to moderate overdrive without the big mid bump that you get with Tube Screamer based pedals. Really sounds great with the surf stuff and works exceedingly well goosing my outboard reverb unit. Can't beat it for around $30.00 but I can't say how reliable it would be for heavy duty stage use as I'm just a basement player. Works real well with other pedals also.

I need it to color my tone in the way I like it) I am lazy to take my amp with me when we play, so there can be anything from Mesa boogie stack to Fender Bassman) I like the sound of OCD amd generally like how it colors my tone and that I sound more or less the same into different amps. Guess just need some more tweeking with boost level and OCD settings.

Yes, that’s what he’s talking about. Look on reverb, you can probably snag one for less. That one is priced kind of high because the green is a rare color.
In the realm of low gain overdrives, I’ve found the tumnus to be my favorite. I long stood by the sweet honey overdrive, but the tumnus...it does that transparent klon thing well, but has a usable gain that isn’t nasally like I found the klon (ktr). Now, you can get the regular tumnus in a mini enclosure, and the deluxe (with Moore gain and knobs) in a regular enclose. It’s a marvelous world we live in.
The Timmy though, has been a staple of tone chasers worldwide. I haven’t owned one personally, it’s popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed.

I look on Amazon casue there less problems with shippment or it’s just free)
Thanks for mentioning Tumnus, we’ve got a Wampler dealer here to try pedals and buy for good price.
But I really wanna set up my sound with OCD, I love its grit, dynamics and overtones so much)

The OCD is no slouch either. I don't have enough experience to tell you one way or the next exactly how to get exactly what you want though.

the traditional setup is boost first (turn it down) into a drive, season to taste. that gives you three distinct sounds. Boost, drive, and more drive from both together. toss some volume knob twisting in there for more or less accordingly. This, with all things gear, best with a grain of salt.

Yep, I know that most common is to overdrive you boosted signal, and I did it with Fulltone FB-2 and Xotic AC booster but with ЕP booster its much better for me when you boost overdriven sound. More clarity and more EP character. When EP is the first, overdrive seems to take away some of its magic. Guess it’s just a matter of taste.

Why not just run 2 ep’s then?

Chippertheripper wrote:

Goog idea))) but even two EP’s are not an overdrive, and we are pretty heavy sometimes) the other point is that you will have two stages of volume boost, that’s not really convenient as for me.

Thanks for advice, guys!
Fiddled with OCD and EP booster on todays rehearsal. Less boost on EP, a little less drive on OCD plus slight volume roll off on Jaguar worked great
We play on Elvis 63 birthday party on Sunday and I’ll see how it works live
