Permalink Ghost Surfers instrumental. Goya Rangemaster archtop guitar with single coil pickups.

The Goya Rangemaster is a great but unusual surf guitar. Both pickups are single coils; archtop guitars traditionally bear humbuckers. I began with bridge + neck pickups together. Halfway through you can see me pressing the button to switch to neck pickup alone. In contrast, in the "Solving the Puzzle" video I used the Goya's bridge pickup alone.

This Goya model was their top of the line in 1965. With epoxy glue I fastened metal weights to the underside of the vibrato plate, increasing sustain and note stability. The guitar is a full hollowbody (i.e., no wood plank up the middle) and before the weight addition sustain was brief.

With many large movements across the fretboard, I have to think far ahead as I play this song.

The mic'd Traynor all tube YCV20WR (with internal Accutronics reverb spring) is visible in the lower left corner of the screen.

That was cool! Nice, unique sounding and looking guitar.
