Permalink Rising prices of the FRV-1

New Topic

The cheapest listing is $190. Who knew that little brown nugget was going to be investment???

J Mascis is selling 100 pieces of gear on REverb, among them was a FRV-1. All the other gear he sold in the first day went for a premium, but the FRV-1 went for a paltry $200. Such a deal!

I feel like a speculator; should I dump mine now or will the price go even higher?!

It is (was?) an affordable, compact, stand-in that operates on standard 9v power supply for a FUBAR gig situation. I toss it into my gig bag. Regardless of its stature here on SG101 or its investment value, nothing changes for me.

I think I'm with you on this. Mine is strictly backup (and now standard practice unit until I get my reissue tank fixed), and unless this high price REALLY holds, I think I'm hanging on to mine. It's never gonna replace a tank for me, but in a pinch, I find that it does great.

Tip: I just bought mine online brand new, at BESTBUY of all places. Now, It WAS up here in Canada (7 left last time i looked). $160 CAD which is like, $120ish? USD.

$420 is three times the average asking price used. Putting $420 as the price in the video title was click bait. Sensationalizing a stupid misguided listing.

I agree. This is straight up clickbait. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people trying to use YouTube as a source of income. It's become so overcrowded that this is the only way they can attract views.

That was the price I found on reverb.com that grabbed my attention, its not like i pulled that number out of thin air.

Right, but if you did a simple Google search, you would have found many other pedals at more reasonable prices. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed a lot of your videos. I find your inexpensive gear comparison videos very useful. Keep it up.

I guess I don't know what click-bait is, since I found nothing wrong with the video or the title.

I find this whole thread really entertaining just for the fact we are talking about the rising price of a pedal that has more haters than admirers, at least here on SG101. I personally would like to see the price continue to go up until no one can afford the thing, and we can stop talking about it all together.

ROTFL

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Also rising in price is the Korg Miku pedal

What would you have titled the video?

Personally, I would have looked online, seen several other much cheaper examples, realized that the $420 price did not represent a reasonable market value, and not made any video. I realize that you need content. If I had to title it, I'd be more inclined to call it, "Some Nut on the Internet is Asking WAAAAAAYYY too Much for a Pedal". It rolls right off the tongue. Again, I like your videos. I mean no disrespect.

At a festival I was performing at a few weeks ago, one of the members in a Doo Wop band told me he had retired his 6G15 in favor a the FRV-1. He related he could hardly distinguish the difference.

One showed up in my garage the other day, so, out of curiosity I plugged it into my 62 Showmen/61 Strat. After I tinkered with all the controls I recalled what Dick Dale said in 1995, maybe 1996 in Scottsdale when the powers that be at Fender tried to persuade him to trade in his 61 Showman for a 1994 Tonemaster: "This thing is best suited for a boat anchor."

I gotta figure out who left that POS FRV-1 in my garage and tell him to get it out of there before I take it to the River and use it as a boat anchor for one of my Jet Ski's.

I echo the last sentence of Aquasonic Chris's comment. He is spot on as usual.

I'm waiting for my Fender 6G15 Reissue to show up Wednesday. Then I will be selling my FRV-1. I think I paid $85-$95 for it a years back....It sounds nasally to me....

The new ones that have recently sold on ebay are all under $200 and used
as low as $69.99.

Maybe I'll hang onto it....just to have a spare Reverb something something hanging around

Everyone gets that $420 is code for trade for weed right?

All I wish I knew what they were talking about
