Permalink Has anyone successfully made a "cold" sounding surf song?

Senor Grandpa here....
I experienced the first wave of surf music,
in SoCal and I am into the Surf Instrumentals
Hard Core, but, there were vocal surf songs, too.

Mostly pretty bad. I did like the Beach Boys
etc. but not "da Kine". did not like Surfer Joe,
too goofy.

Bot since the topic is cold surf songs, this one did
get airplay at the end of the first wave...

Aloha All!

We released an ep titled Ski School in 2009 to honour our Great White Northern climate. I wonder if there are any Inuk surf bands.

Here's a tune I wrote last winter during a snowstorm. I tried to capture what it's like driving thru a blizzard.

This is sick.

I am assuming that's a good thing.. so thank you!

The Trashmen were a Minneapolis based band in the early days of Surf. I don’t know if they ever did any songs themed towards cold weather, but if they played any gigs in Minnesota during the winter they would have had plenty of frigid inspiration.

In the late seventies, I spent a few years in Minneapolis. During the height of winter, if you were playing in a bar and someone opened the door your guitar would instantly go out of tune. If you didn’t want the finish to check, you would have to arrive an hour early and let your guitar warm to room temperature before opening the case. Fun times.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.
