This would be a tricky undertaking. Most Dano's only have a solid block under the bridge but are largely hollow otherwise, particularly where the bigsby would mount. You could:
a. Install more mounting blocks inside
b. attempt to use a short B3 bigsby and a different bridge but you would have to increase neck angle dramatically.
Unless your are really handy or adventurous I'd advise against it, FWIW.

That's exactly what I was wondering Jeff. Everything I've ever seen about the inner workings of most Danelectro guitars is there's only a solid block exactly where there needs to be. Those Hodad models are still an option though. Even if they're not quite as cool looking (to me, at least).

You know the intranet has a lot of these answers. Case in point: I google Hodad/bigsby and came up with this. I would buy it if I didn't already own 20 guitars one of which is a commie red Hodad (that's what color they call it) sans bigsby. I'd say maybe half of em have the wiggle stick.

The Hodad is a terrible guitar. I owned one bought it because "oh, this looks like a surf guitar" but it is barely a guitar. Horrendously poor neck and body that doesn't feel like a Danelectro should. Avoid with your life.

I am a huge fan of my Hodad baritone guitar (tuned to B, 1990s Korean model). It is well built, solid, and sounds great. The only downside is having to take off the neck to adjust the truss rod. Here it is in action.

A luthier/tech guy I knew back in California before we moved had a Hodad that he had modded a bunch. Put on a legit Bigsby and worked it over. It played really nice and felt great (who knows how far off stock it was), but the pickups sounded really bad. I've never played another one, so I have no clue how typical or not it was. I remember he was selling it really cheap when he did some work for me last, but I was getting ready to move across country and selling off excess gear at the time. I think you could get a Squier JM or Jag new for about the same price the Bigsby style Hodads go for used.

I love my Dano rat. Mentioned it before in the recent danelectro thread and then the tumbleweed blew in as usual. Well here it is again! The scratch plate was cut from a dry wipe board so I can write me shopping list when I get bored

Since this has gravitated slightly towards a Dano thread...
I just started putting this '64 Convertible back together yesterday.
Almost done, a few more details. I acquired it for $135.00 so I think it fits the "Cheap but good" thread.

Great price for that Dano Jeff, they're just such a simple and fun concept. Have fun customising, it's looking cool already. I keep wondering about 'upgrades' but I like mine as it is. Always needs tweaking but it just has a bucket load of badass class

 Wow... I've been GASing for a vintage Convertible for ages. But it's quite difficult to find one in decent shape (especially here in Europe) and when one pops up, it's usually horrendously overpriced. $135 is a steal!

Wow... I've been GASing for a vintage Convertible for ages. But it's quite difficult to find one in decent shape (especially here in Europe) and when one pops up, it's usually horrendously overpriced. $135 is a steal!

Yes, this was a good deal but it did have a sunk in top as many do and it has Ringo Starr's name scratched into the back and the initials R and S on each bout, funny, or maybe.....LOL
It was strung up for a few years but I wanted to make it gig worthy so last year I dis-assembled it and worked on it here and there.
I actually installed a solid block of poplar under the bridge to lift the sag and then I drilled in the bridge posts and used a compensated rosewood bridge. It plays in tune fantastically and sounds much better with the bridge block installed. These vintage versions can sound very banjo-like and I wanted to alleviate some of that.
All in all a success. Looks fairly stock except the Hofner knobs but now seems really dependable.
I may also attempt a transducer mounted under the top for some acoustic vibe but I'm in no hurry.
Believe it or not I actually do play some of my guitars un-modded, LOL.
Rev, some of those Slick guitars do look usable indeed. The AXL brand has some that look similar and like a decent bang for the buck as well.

I have one of the Guitar Fetish Strat styles that I got for a little over $100 from the closeout section. I had ordered the surf green model which came with a 22 fret maple fretboard with a satin finish that feels quite nice. A friend of mine liked it so much that he ordered one in yellow, but was extremely disappointed that his came with a 21 fret gloss neck.
They also have a Jazzmaster style model available.
