Permalink Surfamatic: A Demo Tune

New Topic

Surfamatic is a tune I recorded and uploaded to Soundcloud. I played all the instruments and did the mixing. I'm primarily a bass player. Just thought I'd share it here.

I kinda dabble with surf music.

I have a couple more tunes on Soundcloud that are surfish in nature. Hope you like it.

SurfDawg - you're a talented guy!
FWIW, I dig the groove but my ears would love to hear a more prominent melody as well.

Cheers,
Jeff

Holy crap, SurfDawg! That was amazing! I really love the fullness of your sound.

I thought about making it more melodic but I wasn't able to come up with anything I liked. I don't think I settled because I kinda like it the way it is. Perhaps another guitar player could think up something. The tune has a lot chords so I was thinking that maybe simple melody that follows the changes would be best and that is kinda what I did along with the double hammer on.

I recorded this using Mixcraft. I used wrote some of the drum part and I used a loop.

The guitar was played directly into the DAW and I added some digital effects. The horns are virtual instruments. I think I used sax and trumpets and I added effects to them so they would have a spooky tone.

I used some presets for mastering.

Here's one with vocals. Mostly I'm a song writer. I played bass with Voodoo Court for a short time having never played instrumental surf and I really ended up really liking the genre. I learned a lot playing with Mark Kuhn. His guitar chops are only exceeded by his theory chops.
