Great percussion doesn't always need to include crashing cymbals and multiple drums. I think I saw a Quilter mini in one shot. Were you guys both playing through amps and were you using a PA at all? Frankly, especially in that format, for me there is nothing lacking. It fills perfectly due to a variety of factors; the minimalist kit, your tasty melody work, and Kiwamu always managing to check the "d) fill out all the above" box. If I was free I'd drive quite a ways for such a gig, as long as they have a bacon cheeseburger... Tom's always a creative percussionist but this was our first time doing one of these shows with him and it was much better than with just guitars and bass. Don - yes that's the new Model One Baritone in Sonic Silver. I thought it would be a fun gig to try it out on. Rob - yes, just Quilter 101's through single 12" cabs, a few pedals but no P.A. We are and have to play very, very quiet at this joint. Ken, the owner of the joint loves the music but it's usually not a music venue so we have to strike a balance between entertaining the guests and him hearing his Sushi orders. Wes - No bacon cheeseburgers there, sorry but there is tempura. Ken will fry anything. Hell, it's the south, LOL. It's been our neighborhood group's favorite social night so they asked us back. It's fun to turn them on to this music and they take delight and amusement at the original Eleki material. That's the other cool thing about the gig: you can talk to the audience without raising your voice or needing a mic. This make it easy and intimate to engage. It is just a little bit too big and we'd just get talked over. At least with the electrics we can represent the music decently and have some control over volume. If the crowd gets louder so can we. Plus, as much as Kiwamu and I dig playing acoustic - electric is where it's at for us. Samurai - that's about all there is for video from that gig. I think there is one more song with the baritone but my wife did not shoot the whole show or whole songs. It takes me back to a time of Sandra Dee, Troy Donahue, my early teens and surfing. A time of my innocence before Uncle Sam showed me the real world.. All long gone now.
