Besides Fender, what other brands make good surf guitars?
—Gabe
Our beaches here get 3 foot tall waves, but it doesn't matter. You don't need to surf to play surf.

Other than Fenders, people have also played Moserites, Danelectros, and occasionally a hollow body electric with P 90s and a whammy bar. David Arnson of The Insect Surfers plays an Epiphone SG with 3 Humbuckers and a whammy bar. He rocks the heck out it. Ditto for Jason Lee, of Jason Lee and the R.I.P. Tides, who plays a Gretsch White Falcon. Play whatever you wish, my friend. —-Cheers, Clark- -Less Paul, more Reverb- |

Check out Blake Wright Guitars online, he contracts with Chinese manufacturers, right now he's got some P-90 equipped guitars with 22 fret necks and from what I understand will be getting more "offsets" similar to the Jazzmaster. GFS (Guitar Fetish) also has some great guitars as does SX/Agile/Rondo, I had guitars from both GFS and Rondo and wasn't/aren't disappointed. Right now I have one of the "full-size" Rondo SX Liquids with tremolo and P-90s, it's fantastic for "surf", the stock pickups are far better than one would expect and haven't let me down yet. Tesico Danelectros and Silvertones can make great Surf guitars. In the right hands almost any electric guitar can be a "Surf" guitar Cheers, http://www.facebook.com/CrazyAcesMusic |

I've been getting pretty good tones out this Godin Session. Not my dream guitar for this band, but a very versatile guitar. I own 5 Godins.... — |

The 60s Yamaha SG/SGV series or their modern reissue counterparts are great surf guitars. I really love my SGV-300. Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers. |

One of my favourite is Ibanez Talman (mid 90's models) but I agree with Jeff :In the right hands almost any electric guitar can be a "Surf" guitar. |
