Permalink My Fender AVRI Jaguar Parts List

New Topic

A few months ago, I started collecting parts to build an AVRI Jaguar. Every few days, I'd order something from Amazon or StewMac or some store on Ebay. As more parts arrived, and more money was spent, I started to get scared of building this thing on my own. I was certain of catastrophe (solder on finish or over-filed nut.) So, I brought all the parts to my guitar tech and he soldered and assembled everything. There was some subsequent drama around "shielding" - he didn't shield the cavities until later when I ASKED him too - but I am generally happy with the build.

When I embarked on this journey, I looked around for a parts list like this and all I could find were photos of the old Fender Jaguar parts list. That was interesting but not quite actionable. This is the list of parts I wound up bringing to my guitar tech:

1 Fender American Vintage Reissue Jaguar Body '62 Ice Blue
1 Fender American Vintage Reissue Jaguar Neck '65 Ice Blue
1 Fender Vintage RI Jazzmaster/Jaguar Tuners/Pegs/Screws
1 D'Addario 12 Chromes
1 Fender Pickup Tubing
1 Fender American Vintage Jaguar Knob Set
1 Fender Screws (for Vibrato - requires 6)
1 Fender Strap Buttons
1 Fender Neck Plate 'F'
1 Fender Pickguard Screws
2 Fender Jaguar Pickup Covers and Claw Shields
3 Fender AVRI Jaguar Switch Plates
1 Fender Pickguard Shield
1 Fender Vintage '62 Jaguar Wiring Kit
1 Perloid White Jaguar Pickguard
1 Seymour Duncan Antiquity II Pickup for Jaguar - Neck
1 Seymour Duncan Antiquity II Pickup for Jaguar - Bridge
3 StewMac Shims (.25, .5. 1) <- Not used.
1 Mastery Offset Vibrato Unit
1 Mastery Offset Bridge
1 Mastery Offset Bridge Thimbles
1 Mastery String Tree and screw
1 Fender Guitar Gig Bag

I hope this list proves useful to someone! Don't forget to ask for shielding Big Grin

Beautiful guitar! How does it play?

All I wish I knew what they were talking about

Thanks HockeyPuck! I do have a thing for matching headstocks!

I have a 60s Lacquer Jaguar (my first Jag) and I can say that the AVRI neck is a tremendous upgrade over the MIM neck on the 60s Lacquer (even though that Jag plays great too.)

I have really grown used to the Mastery Vibrato and prefer it over the AVRI Vibrato and Stay-Trem I put on the 60s Lacquer - but that is a matter of taste - Stay-Trem + AVRI Vibrato are fine (the Vibrato that came with the 60s Lacquer was NOT fine.)

Mastery Bridge vs. standard Jaguar bridge ... totally a matter of taste. I like it but I don't really understand why I bought it. Big Grin The Jag bridge is brilliant and if set up correctly, should have no issues.

I really like the sound of the Seymour Duncan Antiquity II pickups over the pickups in my 60s Lacquer (again - totally a matter of taste.) They strike me as "stronger." But the reason I bought them was that there were apparently no new Fender AVRI Jaguar pickups to be had anywhere in the USA at the time I was looking for pickups.

Regarding "Ice Blue" - it's a nice color but it's grayer than I thought it would be. I would have preferred bluer.

Oh, and one more funny thing about the build. When I arrived to pick up my new high-end Jaguar with Mastery Bridge and Vibrato - I found a BuzzStop had been installed. It was horrible. I screamed like Homer Simpson until it was removed.

I can state from close personal experience that h3dg3h0g's AVRI Jaguar is a thing of beauty, both visually and sonically!

The Reverbivores - we're local favorites!

Nice approach! Out of interest: Did it end up quite more expensive than a stock AV/AVRI new, or do you now have a custom built unit with upgrades for same price or less?

I do love matching headstocks myself...:)

Jeez I love that color with a matching headstock.
Nice, congratulations!
Cool

I wish I had kept closer track but I think the whole thing was a bit under $2k. So close to a new AVRI - but with several upgrades. If you build (AND SHIELD) yourself, it will be even cheaper ($290 for me.)

Nice!

I've done a bunch of Jag builds, always without shielding. There are zero issues brought upon by lack of shielding.

As somebody who is really defensive about the original Jag bridge, which is just fine, the Mastery really is worth it. Sounds more Jag-like than the Staytrem bridge but sounds great and is rock solid.

Although any issues I've had are usually fixed with a properly done nut, I do like the look of Mastery's string tree.

@Badger - yeah - I only got that string tree because I saw it on Adrian Cavlan's Jaguar when he opened for Dick Dale last year - $20! And my guitar sounds exactly $20 better for it! Big Grin

@JakeDobner - that's interesting you have no issues with unshielded Jags! I had tremendous buzz when not touching any metallic part when I got my Jaguar back. I returned to my guitar tech and complained and he said "Shielding! $40 extra please!" The alleged shielding he added removed all/most of the buzzing - but who knows, maybe he also removed the BuzzMaker that he'd installed along with the BuzzStop. Laughing

That sounds like a bad ground. The noise/hum would happen regardless if you were touching the metallic parts.

The Jaguar claws preclude the need for shielding, in my opinion. That and every control plate has metal. Sure as hell gonna shield a Jazzmaster though!

This insight should be mentioned in the "Why Jaguars are magical" discussion. The "control plate triangle" of death!
I find that exciting for some reason.

Excellent guitar, Jonathan, well done! The Mastery accessories are very complementary.
