Keep the band mentions coming! In the spirit of making them easy to check out, here are some links: The Sand Blasters - Uber creative Surf, Spy, Spaghetti, and everything else. http://www.markstultz.com/?page_id=1267 (Mark is the main songwriter for the band) Teisco Del Rey and The Delreylettes (my favorite iteration) Death Valley - Spaghetti Western at it's best The Surf Finks (The Surf Finks, Death Valley, High Noon, and The Fly Rite Boys all contribute members to The Thunderchiefs. Do the math.) Squid Viscous -> Squid Vicious, according to the Deep Eddy site: http://www.deepeddy.net/squid/ Herman The German! Facebook (dormant since 2010) https://www.facebook.com/Herman-The-German-121539634563157/ Nitrons - Can't find anything, but here's a bio for Beth Garner that mentions them: http://www.lonestarmusic.com/bethgarner Dude Man Hey - Post some stuff here when you get a chance! —The Spoils - FB - RN |

Geez, Linda would kill me that I accidentally listed her sister as the bassist in the Nitrons and Teisco. Beth (Guitar) and Linda (Bass) were both in Teisco's band along with Lisa Pankratz one of the best drummers I've ever seen. They also teamed up with Karen Biller to form the Queen of Spades. Austin's only all-girl Surf band that I can recall. |

So many underappreciated bands on this forum! They do authentic 60's surf instrumntals and really great surf vocals too. Way into Bobby Fuller... From Austin Texas... The Thunderchiefs! —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Man, you scared me! I thought I somehow missed them in the first post, but they're at the top of the list... phew! More good bands popping up around here lately! Sonic Waves - San Antonio classic types Total Death Mechanics - Corpus Christi surf-punkers The Spoils - FB - RN Last edited: Sep 07, 2016 13:33:58 |

Bump for new bands, and to celebrate Chad's visit from Atlanta! First, I've gotta make a correction - Sonic Waves have a lot more going on than just being "classic types"! We had them up in December and I was really impressed with a kind of dreamy feel, very reminiscent of Twin Peaks, on some of their music. They did some more straight-ahead tunes, but about half of their set was quite unique, applied to both originals and covers. El Jefe and the Riffs - Corpus Christi surf-metal shredders, excited to see them live at Nomad in June! The Stone Robots - Really like these guys, pretty heavy but still clean surf with a bit of garage rock thrown in the mix. The Gentle Grifters - New group who've played with Chuck of The Dead Sea as his backing band a few times, these guys have a lot of class and energy. One of the smoothest groups in the scene already, with some very cool arrangements. Looking forward to more from them soon! The Spoils - FB - RN Last edited: Apr 10, 2017 15:40:57 |

Thanks for posting the lists of bands to check out! I downloaded King Pelican's "Matador Surfer" which is great album and is constantly getting played. Last edited: Apr 17, 2017 20:39:43 |

I'd like to chip in on the Austin scene too. We (Rondo Hatton) really enjoyed our date at Second Saturday Surf a couple of years ago. Ted has asked us to come back and if I can find a new second guitarist, we will definitely go back. I lived there for 16 years and wish I never left. |

We loved having y'all, hope you can make it back for sure. We're trying to send more of our folks in your direction too, but it's tough getting people on the road. All of the bands who've played Second Saturday Surf are listed and linked on the "Bands" page of this new site that Ted from Deep Eddy has been working on: http://austinsurfs.com/ The Spoils - FB - RN |

And its a great roster of bands! Hey klob - what would it take to see the Thunderchiefs? I'm not familiar enough with the players to know the band's story/status. I do know that I love Drang-n-Fly and want to see it live! —From past me to future you Last edited: May 09, 2017 18:41:14 |

I don't know them really, but they've played before, I think Ernest set that up. I've asked Shaun Young about it, but it sounds like his schedule is contingent on the rest of the band, who are in a bunch of other busy projects. I'll follow up on this and hopefully we can get them back before the end of the year. —The Spoils - FB - RN |

Just found out about another new surf band in Austin, Sheverb A trio of women doing a very intriguing blend of surf, spaghetti western and psych. Just a few demos and live cuts out so far, would love to get them together with Nuclear Juarez, what a great show that'd be. Dig their cover of Walk, Don't Run here... —The Spoils - FB - RN |
