Alright, thanks everyone for answering the poll about this. I think we are going to pull the trigger on this for real, at the urging of mom_surfing (Carol). Carol and I are going to work together on this little project, since she is a business owner and has access to some excellent resources.
This will kind of be a trial run kind of thing, so don't expect too many options or frills. We are going to print up a run of some t-shirts, and I believe they will be white only. Don't know the sizes yet (Carol?).
But before we get ahead of ourselves...we need a design! That is where you come in. Please submit a design to this thread. Something with 3 or 4 colors would be best.
So please use this thread to submit designs, ask questions, give feedback, all that stuff. Thanks!
And Carol please chime in if I forgot something...

simple designs are the best. sometimes it's easy to get carried away and put every idea you have down at once.
everyone chime in too and give me an idea of what size you would want. i can order everything from a kids medium (10-12) to a mens XXL and womens small to XL.

and by the way, we can do a dark colored shirt (black, brown, etc) but one of the ink colors that counts is white, which is the first they print as a foundation for any other color printed on top of it. i hope this makes sense.

I gather from this that the two design options are to be
* Blank White
- Brian Head-Banging on Whiteand the sizes will be
-
L - Athletic/Young
-
XXL - Couch Potato/Old

Are you looking to do a single sided shirt with the screen either on the front or back?
Or something custom, i.e. sleeve print web address and the art on the front or back. Maybe a pocket size screen front and large screen back.
If this is the initial shirt. I would suggest doing one color only until you get a idea of the demand. Plus you will save a little cash. A good design doesn't need a lot of color to make it work.
I know from past t-shirt runs that a good formula for the sizes based on the number of shirts ordered is to break it down something like this:
Small - 10%
Medium - 20%
Large - 30%
X-large -30%
XXL - 10%
That is just loose model. But L and XL are going to move the most.
Who would have thought doing T-shirts would be so involved? There are a lot of options and things to consider these days.
It has been keeping my band in a state of indecision for some time now on what to do for our T-shirt merch.

Well, with T-shirts, a simple 1 color is the way to go at first. White Plastisol on black or navy looks is the most fetching for least $ IMO.
Then again you could actually do a full color garment by direct printing. Though more expensive than a screen print, the results can be very impressive.

You would be surprised at the price hike for doing sizes after XL. ALmost a dollar a unit for each size up.
Crazy.

up to XXXXL is available, and yes the price does go up past XL. i would suggest a back design with a smaller version of it on the front. 'surf guitar 101.com' is really all that needs to be said. the screen printer will do a couple of colors of ink for the same price.

The Only problem with back of shirt designs is my hair covers them all up.
I like designs on the front of shirt better.
also for those of you that live in cold weather and are wearing jackets or coats in the winter, that would also cover the big design on the back.
just some thoughts.

jeff, i forgot to take into consideration your hair.
also, a valid point for putting the design on the front. a bigger design could be put on the back and duplicated smaller in the front.

well I just meant a big design on the front and thats it.
I have alot of band shirts that I wear and if the design is on the back If people want to see it I always have to turn my head or lift my hair.

I enjoy all the talk about t-shirt sizes as much as the next person, but who's gonna start posting designs?
Oh, and I take a large.

4XL's.....2L's and 2M's for The To's..it would be cool to have something more than just "surf guitar 101.com" but we'll take whatever you decide. If it's a cool design, we'll wear 'em as uni's!!
BTD...don't get a haircut....there's only a few of us left!!

I think the design from the sg101 myspace page would work well on a t-shirt.
