After the better part of two years working on this, the greatly revised and expanded 2nd edition is almost here. With luck, books will be available in time for Christmas this year. This new edition has full color graphics and two Forewords from Gary Usher and Davie Allan. More information in the days ahead.

It’s taken a long time. The first edition of this book was published in 1990 and now, 26 years later, the second edition is finally available. This one is greatly expanded and corrected, with graphics in full color. In addition to the existing Foreword by the late Gary Usher, this new edition also features a Foreword from Davie Allan.
This is not a price guide. This is a discography of commercial sound recordings released between 1961 and 1965. Included are recordings about motorcycles, go-carts, dune buggies, etc.. It is intended to be a companion volume to my “Illustrated Discography of Surf Music, 1961-1965.” Appendices to this edition include compilation and soundtrack albums; sound effects recordings; Hollywood movies about racing, hot rods, and bikers; and hot-rod recordings on the Billboard Top 100. The book also contains an exhaustive index.
My co-author, Stephen McParland, has written many books on the subject of surf music since the late 1970s. Stephen is recognized in his native Australia for his exhaustive research and documentation of the continent’s strong surf music history. He is Gary Usher’s biographer, having written an incredibly detailed biography of one of pop music’s most talented producers, musicians, and vocalists.
At 143+ pages, the second edition of “The Illustrated Discography of Hot Rod Music, 1961-1965” is $34.95 plus postage and handling. You can find ordering information for this and the latest, 4th edition, of the surf music discography by going to my website: www.johnblair.us. Note that I will combine books to save on shipping; just email me first (contact email is noted on my website).
