Nearing completion on a Jaguar build... Looking for opinions on pickups that will provide the original 1963 flat pole tone.
I have utilized the search function and read through older topics. None were asking specifically for the 63 design. Curtis Novak claims his Jaguar pickup is actually designed on a 64 of his, though I'm confident he could do a 63 type, and I know he makes quality stuff. But wasn't sure if there were other options for dialing in that sound. I made a topic earlier this year and realized I should try flat pole pickups since I've always used staggered, now I'm looking to buy some since the project is dwindling down. And I thought: perhaps other travelers seek that tone too and can find this in the future...
Thanks.

I had once had a Jaguar with Lollar flat pole pickups which I thought had great vintage tone.

The AV'65 Jag pickups that Fender makes are the finest I've ever had the chance to put in a Jag. Good stuff, absurdly affordable.
Lollar's are damn fine. Skip the AVRI '62s, Duncans are fine.

I've not played as many Jag pickups as Jake but will attest from a very recent foray that the Fender Pure Vintage 65's are scary good.

+1 on the AV65 Jag pickups! I replaced a set of 62AVRIs with them.

I assume those 65 pickups are staggered pole though, yes? I'm not entirely against staggered.. But I'd like to hear and feel the tonal differences from this Jaguar build with flat pole vs a Jaguar I have now with staggered.
I've heard the 63 pickups are a little bassier, warmer, and more woody.

Interesting they're 65 yet they're flat....
Do these come stock on the 65 reissues?

Yes, that's where I first encountered them.

You will also find them on the Classic 60's Lacquer series (not to be confused with Classic Player).

I asked Curtis Novak to make me a Jag pickup set based on 1963 specs - i.e. flat pole and wound hot with formvar wire - No buyer's remorse from me -
they are great sounding pickups.
