Though not really surf, my first album was the soundtrack to the Wild Angels (Davie Allan & the Arrows). I think it set me on this course. Rev —Canadian Surf |

Mine was probably The Beach Boys "High Water", a Pickwick (budget reissue label) double album bundling of a comp album and parts of the "Beach Boys Concert" album. |

Never Mind the Bolsheviks. And while making many other purchases I spent the next year and a half searching for Tsar Wars and The Golden State (Pollo del Mar). Both successfully, Tsar Wars on vinyl. Golden State is always impossible to find. I don't follow all the 'lists' and 'polls' as to which surf band has the longest wiggle stick but The Golden State should always be rated near the top. Timeless, like the title. Da Vinci Flinglestein, The Syndicate of Surf on YouTube |

Now that I see somebody mention it, the first proper surf album (not counting The Ventures albums or instrumental compilations I inherited from my parents) was The Blue Stingrays 'Surf 'n Burn.' I actually ordered it by mail from the paper pamphlet that came in some punk rock CD I bought from Epitaph records in high school. I still listen to it occasionally. —The Mystery Men? |

After reconnecting and finding this site (with all its copious "help") I found Stampede & Charge of the Nightriders (vinyl). While awaiting their arrival and figuring out what else to vacuum up I saw the SJSF vids of The Atlantics and Reef Break flipped me out, so Atlantics' Greatest Hits really got into the house first. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

Mine were 45s Surfin Bird, Wipeout, Baja, Pipeline, and Walk Don't Run 64. I got them when they came out. Showing my age! |

My parenta bought The Beach Boys' 'Surfin USA' lp when I was six, 5 of the 12 songs are actually instrumental! I heard the Beach Boys' version of Misirlou WAY before Dick Dale's! In college i found (and worshipped) a coupla Davie Allan LPs, but is he "surf '? Very shortly thereafter i got a great double LP surf comp called 'Golden Summer, and then i was hooked for life. It also came with a TOTALLY FOXY (see 'Notes' in below link) surfer girl poster in it which ended up being very 'pictures of lily' for me in my college dorm! https://www.discogs.com/Various-Golden-Summer/release/2287246 Last edited: Mar 29, 2017 16:51:28 |

It had to be Surfer Girl and In Concert by the Beach Boys. I had a lot of surf 45's, Surfer Joe/Wipe Out, Pipeline... The only Ventures album I had was "Learn to Play Electric Bass with the Ventures" and I gave it to a friend who was learning bass. —All opinions expressed by this poster are well thought out and based on actual experience and/or scientific experimentation, except for those which are knee-jerk reactions or good sounding fantasies. |
