BTW, I totally accept that I'm posting this as an old guy, completely 'out of it'. Let me please add: "GET OFF MY LAWN, YOU DAMN KIDS!!"

Haha! Understand that all forms and styles of music have certain conventions. I mean, what's with all that echo-y guitar in surf music? The Reverbivores - we're local favorites! |

I clicked for Katy, stayed for the whoop. Yeah, that is pretty funny. I thought I detected a trend for "oh, oh" choruses after Phillip Phillips "Home". There is a commercial using a song called "Day To Feel Alive" that is so close, I don't know how he has avoided a plagiarism suit. |

I guess we're mostly over the whispery ukelele phase, so there's that — |

I've been talking about this vocal trend for years. It is truly horrendous. It reminds me of all the young Coachella attendees with Native American headgear. ::shutter:: —Science friction burns my fingers. |

Yeah, I much prefer the Sleeping Lion Yodel to the Millenial Whoop: —Lorne |

Since the office I work at is located in an outdoor shopping mall, I hear Muzak every day. When they aren't playing Coldplay, much of it sounds just like this whooping. |

Uhhhh.....yeah.... Perhaps you've witnessed this: an aging vocalist/singer can no longer hit the high notes, so when the high note comes, they stand at the edge of the stage, and hold the mic out over the audience and let THEM hit it. Sad, and somewhat pathetic, as well. BTW, Ivan I don't know how old you are, but I'll be 57 this month. Not quite sure I'm ready to refer to myself as an old guy. (Or old codger.) I prefer the terms, 'Apprentice Codger', or 'Codger's Apprentice'. Heh heh. YMMV —-Cheers, Clark- -Less Paul, more Reverb- |

well, birds have been doing it since there's been birds, so I'm gonna file this as making something out of nothing...which is kind of the idea of music anyway, right? |

Worse though, but similar, is the big chorus that is used now. Those songs in the video are such utter shit... One exception, a song by Chvrches called The Mother We Share, I don't think is a great example of what they were trying to show. Here is that track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j73ZGLKu9Sc They are an electronic band, so not for everyone, but I feel they are one of the only 'organic' electronic bands still around. |

So as an old guy, did you get a little stoked when that "Tarzanboy" clip came up? Not necessarily for that horrible song/video - more for memories of that awesome CGI Listerine commercial?... or is that just me? — From past me to future you |

I love that Listerine commercial!! I grew up reading the Tarzan books in original (or at least very old) editions, with the J. Allen St. John art and that commercial always made me happy when it came on. |

Ivan, thank you for bringing this to my attention, but I'm glad I didn't even know about it, and want no part of it. I'm going right now to listen to some Madeira to clear my head of all this. "Journey To The Center Of The Surf" should do it quite well. Oh yeah! That worked. Thank you Madeira —Woody D |

This stuff is why I successfully lobbied the local gas chain to put a mute button on their pumps so I didn't have to listen to this shit or E! news or MSNBC. (Told them it was a safety hazard, not being able to listen to the gas actually flowing or coming up the neck.) Reverbenator wrote:

Almost as annoying as the "millennial whoop" was the the trend a few years ago of the Whistling Hipsters. Drove me crazy |
