Starbucks and Rhino Records produced a cd, Big Waves - Five Decades of Surf Rock which is a single disc, but samples a wide range of music. That one is easy to find. Rhino's "Guitar Player Presents: Guitar Legends- Surf Vol 1". There was never a Vol 2, but the Cowabunga Box Set came out a few years later. By the way, all of Rhino's "Guitar Player Presents: Legends of Guitar" (Country, 50's, 60's, 70's Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical) are outstanding. "Rock Instrumental Classics: Vol 5 Surf" (other volumes/genres are great, too) "Lost Legends of Surf Guitar Vols 1-4" (one vol was mentioned above, but they're all great) "Birth of Surf Vols 1-3" (again one was mentioned above. They're all worthwhile) Del Fi's "Wild Surf" "Rim Shots and Reverb" (not all surf, but worthwhile) "Great British Instrumentals of the 50's and 60's) (again, not all surf, but worthwhile) "Vampires, Cowboys, Spacemen & Spooks: Very Best of Joe Meek's Instrumentals"(some great surf, some non-surf, but great, nonetheless) "Pebbles Vol 4 : Surf'n'Tunes" I hope this helps. — Bob Top

Equally good are the Strummin' Mental 1-2, Las Vegas Grind 1-3 and Jungle Exotica 1-2 series on Crypt Records. The first is unknown surf, the other two are more 50's and early 60 exotica and raunchy stripclub tunes. I recommend the CD version, since there are more songs on it and it is a lot cheaper (Las Vegas Grind had 6 volumes on vinyl, but the same songs on 3 CD's). A couple low budget options are: - Raunchy! vol 1 - 2 (Jasmin Records) - Instroville, hits & rarities from the golden age op pop instrumentals (Fantastic Voyage) - Surf's Comin', 60 cool tracks of the pioneers of surf (Not Now Music) - Big Box of Link Wray and more Kings of Distortion 6 CD box (Retro World - not all are instrumentals, but it is really worth the bang for the bucks) — www.alohasluts.com Aloha Sluts on BandCamp www.arnyzona.com (my photography) Aloha Fest on facebook Top
