Welcome Dayung, plenty of strat players here. Are you or have you been in a band? Are you new to surf music? What amp do you play? Are you in the US? You'd be suprised at how much info you disclose when you post on a site like this. Your IP address will locate you with 25 or so miles and your login will also submit details about your computer and browser. It can also say which site you came from before. —http://www.myspace.com/thepashuns Youth and enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery. |

Sorry to geek out here, but this stuff interests me a lot: Everyone using the internet has a so-called "IP address". This can be spoofed, but it is very difficult to do. When you access this site, your IP address is sent along with your request for whatever content you want to the webserver. This information is logged. IP addresses are handed out in blocks to organizations like ISP's. Things have settled down so much that people have created maps that show in what part of the world IP address ranges reside. These maps are not completely accurate and can change. When you request a page from a webserver, your browser sends along a "user agent string" which identifies your browser. This can easily be spoofed. (I'm not sure what other "computer details" estreet is referring to; I cannot tell anything more about your computer than the user agent string). If you are browsing another site, like say Google, and you click on a link to SG101, I can tell you came from a Google page. This too, can be spoofed. Anyway, the point of all this is: I am not doing anything special, nor am I tracking people. This is just how the internet and http protocols work. All of this info is readily available to me. I pay attention to these things because several times a week people try to hack into this site. I have to figure out where they are and may have to report them to ISP's. I have to patch the site software frequently and I loose sleep over this. Having this info available also (apparently) proves useful when an ex-member nut job who can't play well with others tries to pretend he can't speak English to stir up trouble on the site visits us. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |
