These are my 3 guitar heroes not only for paying respect to teh surf guitar traditions but extending out into new territory.
Dave Wronski
Jim Thomas = for his sonic exploration

Hey Chad, I was able to listen to the Mermen, live, twice. Flew from Maryland to Santa Cruz for that Psych Surf band. Great people as they adopted me for a day. (both trips) Jim's guitar work can put you in a different place. Allen Whitman/bass, Martyn Jones/ drums and Jennifer Burnes/ (2nd bass) sound like an orchestra. Full rich rock surf notes that will envelop you.

I'm generally at the more progressive end of the spectrum:
Jim Thomas
Dave Arnson +
Dave Wronski
Ivan Pongracic
and among the more trad guys, Shigeo Naka.
So many honorable mentions, I'm not even gonna try to list them all.
