I've been anticipating this dvd ever since first reading about it (I think here on this forum). I checked the HBISM website for an update, and it says, "release postponed indefinitely".
Another mention of it on Google mentions "due to unforseen circumstances". Sound a little ominous.
Anyway, I'm bummed. Hope it will be available someday.

First, our humblest apologies to everyone for having to wait so long for the DVD, but the "Art of Surf Drumming" video is alive and well (really!). As with everything else in our community, funds are at a premium, and attempting to deliver a quality project on the cheap has been a real challenge. (We are wildly over-budget, and we keep finding new footage and interviews that we just have to include). The good news is that one of our producers Paul Johnson has really stepped up to the plate and both in editing and in content, and he's just about finished (really!). What started out to be a rather simple drum instruction video has morphed into a documentary film spanning 1961 to the present, and we really think it will be worth the wait. The rest of the gang is going to see a final cut next week, and we expect a finished product in 4-6 weeks. Everyone has been so gracious and supportive (nobody's asked for their 20 bucks back yet---thank you!), and we hope you will hang in with us just a little longer.
Thanks for waiting!

Thanks Reventlos for answering websurfer. It'll be on www.surfingmusuem.org under events when I get word from Producer Bob Colwell that it is finished. We at HBISM thank you also for hanging in there. To further help you understand why it takes so long let me try to explain. First there's the idea, then implementing that idea, practicing, playing, reahearsing, recording, documenting, fact finding, picture finding, live footage, interviews & editing...Once you've done all that there's legal & infringement issues to contend with. If you can't get release forms signed you can't use the material so it's back to the editing bay. It was delayed indefinately because of many complications that take time to solve. When you get the final cut you'll see it isn't just a bunch of drums & drummers pounding their lives away. These guys have gone to great lengths to bring you the most informative in depth quality Dvd ever produced. I am currently working with a guy who is and has been working on a Sandy Nelson documentary for over a year. He does this for a living and he told me it usually takes 3 years to complete a quality detailed DVD so it looks like ours is right on track. Thank you all for being patient. you won't be dissappointed...

Thanks for the update! This is really great news for fans of surf music in general, and surf drumming in particular.
Good things really are worth waiting for.

SonnyD..You'll be happy to know there is a DVD in the making of The Sandy Nelson Story and the info on it can be found on
www.myspace.com-thesandynelsonstory
It is being produced by Jim Whirlow with JRW Group Entertainment located in Huntington Beach...Jim tells me Sandy is very much alive and playing nightly in Bullhead City Ariz which is where he supposedly lives...Jim says Sandy sounds like Buddy Rich these days and continues to play despite the loss of a leg to a motorcycle accident, using a prosthetic leg...Way to go Sandy..
