Hello =) I recently discovered Surf on the Bass and I really love it, but now I want to play it on guitar too! Where do I start at if I want to learn surf guitar? What kind of gear/equipment do I need? Recommendations? Thanks in advance =] |

Schlock, as well using the search function on this site. There should be many informative answers in previous threads to your questions from some very knowledgable players and the gear answers will range from beginner/budget to pro/ more expensive. Both bands predominantly use Jazzmasters guitar. They both have a pretty traditional surf sound so fender outboard reverb tank, clean fender amps. Nothing too fancy, can't really go wrong. You can find a whole lot of information in the gear section about getting a solid traditional surf sound. As far as technique and theory... most of it you can pick up by learning songs. Actually, the best way is just to learn as many songs (chords and lead). You'll get the hang of how it works by seeing what chords are used and what melodies go over what chords. Probably extra practice in tremolo picking, rock'n'roll licks, exotic scales and triads shapes all over the neck. The forum has YEARS worth of quality information worth going through.
