Don't count Brian Setzer out. He's played for years with a pair of Brownface Bassman amps. I had one for years and it rocked.
I just like the really smooth thunk and the Brownies do that big time.

I blame Brian Setzer 100% for the price of blonde Bassmans, and I think if he played blonde Bandmasters, we would all Be paying at least double for those.

Totally agree with you on that Chris.
The price of Supro Martiniques doubled after Dan Auerbach started playing one, it isn't even his main guitar...
Artist association does absurd things to the price of guitars/amps/pedals.

The Pro seems to be the only medium or high power brownie not mentioned so far. 40W with a 15", sort of a Vibroverb minus the reverb. The D-130F was an option but was standard on the similar but much more expensive Vibrasonic.

He's one of those players that is decent on recordings but absolutely lights it up live. I first saw him in Ottawa in 2011 and the only reason I went is because I had a free ticket. I became an instant fan that night. I've seen him three times now and totally love not only his playing, but his love/knowledge for guitars and gear.

WOW: I am glad I honed in on that thread about a boy from wherever who sold his BM to JB and then Ivan popped in with one of his old threads to respond thereto.
For this White Boy who got the interest to play a guitar after hearing Albert King, I've always steered my Showmen with rhythm n' blues drenched with the West Coast surf sound. For some reason I never heard of of Bonamassa until Ivan wrote this blog, stating "I'm really not a fan."
Thanks Ivan for steering me to a great guitar player.

I just watched a video of Bonnamassa with Beth Hart. He's no genius but there is heart in his playing and her singing. It feels sincere and I like the way they are really just regular folks, albeit on a really large stage in front of thousands of agape fans. It's rather difficult to do nowadays, the gunslinger lead Les Paul thing. I'll have to see more to say whether he can really pull it off. Or whether it needs to be pulled off. Like a scab.

This just popped up. I haven't watched it yet or payed close enough attention to know whether it's a repost.
I'm not really a fan either, but this appeals to my nerdiness just the same:

I got a chance to check it out before walking the dog and getting out for work.
I don't really dig his noodling, but he's right on in his approach, imo.
I kind of wish I had the patience and got as early a start as he did. I'd be a lot more proficient at hacking away. Having a family connection helps too, I'm sure, I wouldn't know.

I like how he studied 60s British blues and seems to have gotten inside those idioms. Too bad he lacks artistic sophistication to convey the edgier, more pop-art side of the movement. Seems he, like many guitarists, got caught in some kind of purism. My guess, from very limited exposure to his work and speech, is that he is a good musician and technician but is not widely read, deep or clever. He lacks edges, but he has very good tone instincts.

Joe is an gear nerd of the highest level. I've never heard any of his music but I do frequent his Instagram feed. It's amazing and contains many surf-worthy vintage Fender guitars as well as amps.

He mentioned in one gear nerd chat how he bought a High-Power Tweed Twin from Steven Segal. And he didn't smirk!

He has a wonderful collection of guitars and amps, but I'm not impressed by what I've seen of his playing. I thought this album title (and cover photo) was quite apt however.
