Permalink my friend's guitar instructional video featured by Guitar Player magazine - AND there is a surf music connection!

An old friend posted on YouTube nearly a year ago a video of himself trying to get better at sweep-picking on guitar. Well, in the past 5 weeks the video has gone viral, and today is actually featured in the Guitar Player magazine's daily update! It's now at 187K views, but sure to explode even more after this! It was made by my friend Jamie who teaches photography at an Indiana college. The connection to surf music: he took the Ancient Winds photos of the Madeira, AND also wrote the Tsar Wars novella found on the Space Cossacks enhanced CD! A truly multi-talented individual, and a dear friend since '87 - and I'm absolutely thrilled that he's now an internet sensation!!!

One other cool thing about this is that the story was written by Damian Fanelli who works for Guitar World, but is himself also a surf guitarist that used to play in a great surf band Mister Neutron. All sorts of connections!

I've done pick sweeping, but never sweep picking. I'll have to check this out.

Now that was Awesome! Ivan congrats to your friend on the awesome inspiring video. It's a very hard technique. Now I have to go dig out my Yngwie malmsteen CD's.

Cheers

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

That's a cool video Ivan! I am a lefty playing righty and have been struggling with double picking for many years. Last I started focusing more on double picking and made huge progress. Now it sounds ok for surf covers IMO. I know, it's easy compared to sweep picking and other techniques, but I'm really happy.
