Congrats Bob, getting press is near impossible for a surf band. Good for you! Thumbs Up

I'll get some posted - probably on our web site - but it won't be for a few weeks

thanks for the replies

I was going to post this too - Awesome Bob!

What was the crowds reaction? How long did you play?

I was going to go, but I figured jealousy would prohibit me from enjoying it fully.

Congrats Bob. I think Tuck sent me a few photos, I'll run one for POTD.

Chris - we did 2 40 minute sets - by the time we ended, the place was well over half full - so at least 5,000 people

without question one of the highlights of my career

to be on that stage and imagine who had been up there (and in the dressing room!)

this link will give you every show in the history of Red Rocks:

everyone except the Who and The 'Stones, basically

it's not an exaggeration to say it's one of the premier music venues in the world

I peed where Ringo peed......

Wow! now I'm really jealous! Half full!? On the main stage? 2 40 minute sets - Thats killer! If I'd have known it was going to be that long of a set, I'd have gone for sure. I should have gone, damn it!

we'd love to have you

I'll do it! Very Happy Very Happy Ooh man, that's gonna be fun! Thanks Bob!

I'll send you an e-mail - I haven't talked with you in awhile...

I got a few and sent some to Brian for POTD material. I am a very "wooden" photographer, and I hate to go up and get in peoples' faces, so the ones I took are sort of "documentary" in nature. You can tell it's Red Rocks and on close examination it does seem to be the Beloved Invaders. Three guys in jackets, two of them grinning like maniacs, and one of them doing his impression of Bill Wyman. Actually, not just jackets, since the first set was in the summer shirts.

I believe some video was taken.

It really was a quite a long show. They played two sets from 7:00 up until sundown, about 9:00, with a comic in between sets. The comic didn't do particularly well. The crowd was huge by the end of the second set. It was at least politely interested in everything, and the response to Misirlou was huge.

I don't know how this show happened. The movie is one of a series "Film on the Rocks." I suppose they look for associated draws. Maybe the organizers would do it again next year and make more of a deal of it, with more bands? It would be a great venue for a surf music festival. I'm not sure the Front Range has enough fans of the music per se, but the movie and the site might be a good draw. A bit of radio promotion might help, I guess.

you guys should mention that they should show,
"The Endless Summer" and "Riding Giants" and "Step into Liquid"
hel;l maybe even "Big Wednesday" and other off beat surf films, and you could play for all those.

I just remember the video for Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2 being a kid, thinking, wow that is a bad ass ampitheater.

Bad ass it is. The sound is pretty decent; the setting is superb. Climbing out of it just about killed me, but there's a stage level drive up for artists.

You're not quite in the middle of the wilderness at Red Rock, but on the way in from the parking lot I saw a spotted towhee - something I don't usually see in my back yard. In fact, it's the first one I ever saw.

I put up the rest of the pictures I took, less a few that were just too dreadful.

Have the other amateur photographers out there ever noticed how hard it is to get a drummer to focus in an action shot? (I assume the pros are already chuckling.) These are all variations on two guys playing guitar (Bob and Scott) and one drummer (Clay) descending a staircase.

In desperation I tried a movie, so I have about a minute of Bombora out of the middle in *.avi format. You can tell it's some guys tearing into Bombora, but these little hand digital cameras are not intended as sound recorders. And this was when I discovered that you can't zoom while taking a movie like you can with a regular VCR. I didn't upload this!

I do have a few more extensive movies from the Invaders' Westminster City Park gig, and the sound there was better if not really good, but I'm waiting to see if Bob, who is nothing if not a perfectionist, can stand them. Really, their sound is always great - it's the camera that murders it.

"The Endless Summer" and "Riding Giants" ...

These are great ideas, Jeff, though I'm not sure who to suggest them to! The Front Range bands and their fans (which is where I fit) are definitely up for something like this, but I think the problem is that no one has had any luck yet finding an organization willing to sponsor a multi-band surf thing in the area.

Congrats, Bob!!! What a thrill it must've been! Wish I coulda been there...

Good for you guys! What a great thing to play Red Rocks. I saw Stevie Ray there ... and the Pixies killed there last year. Wonder if there have been any previous surf bands? Interesting, but I am not going thru the long list of acts to find another one.

Congrats, Bob. Have fun playing with Chris. There is surf in the Rockies!
