Hi everyone, my name is Dan and I have been enjoying this site for a few weeks now. Many thanks to a couple of the members that hang out at HBISM for turning me on to it.
I am 54 so I got to hear the first wave of surf music on AM radio in my dads car. I've loved it all along. It is good to know that I am not the only one afflicted with this addiction.
I am currently in a surf band playing mainly around Orange County CA.
We have been together for about 9 years.
Good vibs to all, xxreverbxx (Dan)

WELCOME from another 50's newbie whose first love of guitar instrumentals was in my teens. Too bad I didn't learn to play back then.
I read and watched SG101 for months before joining. The best thing here is the core of players and pros who are willing to share their wealth of knowledge with us hobbyists without the turn-off of an elitist "snub" that I see on other sites. The genre needs fans like us "goobers" to fill the bleachers at surf shows. Your background experience should be a welcome addition.

Goober,
do you come down from Malibu much for surf shows?
there are shows in the city areas and the beach areas, of LA and OC.
I have seen a few at the Malibu inn in the late 90's early 2000's
and one on the Malibu pier.

Been meaning to catch the Sunday shows at HB, but something always seems to get in the way. I'll make it there eventually. My youngest daughter surfs and loves the surf music too, especially after DD's open concert on the Santa Monica Pier last year.

I am the baby of the band at 45.
I began listening to my dad's Ventures albums when I was 6-7, I started playing guitar at age 12, and Pipeline was the first song I learned, naturally.
My drummer is 53 and bass player 62.
I went on to play rock and heavy metal for many years, but never went anywhere with it.
I went back to my first musical love, instrumental surf music, and many doors opened up for the band.
Welcome Dan to SG101, SURF's UP!!!!!!

Is it ture then that "OLD GUYS RULE"
Our drummer is 59 and we have a 64 year old guitar player. Our bass player is the youngest at 49. "THE RELIX" is the band. Not because were old dudes, because surf music is a treasure from the past. But both fit I guess. Anyway we are having lots of good clean fun.
The website is www.therelix.net
still working on it from time to time.
