Permalink The best show your band ever played

MikeG, notice how Jeff is taking the high road?

Also, I was told specifically not to try and book a show with you guys by another band because of your ego. So perhaps rethink how you speak of your band so it seems like less boasting.

Also, if you and your wife heard "How can we go on after that" perhaps the Surf Trio was just being polite? I've lied about liking bands at shows before.

There is no one favorite, these rated for me:
1. With the Ventures at Palookaville in Santa Cruz
2. with Mermen at slims
3. Golden gate yacht club with the Lava Rats, The Sub-Mersians, the Hypnotic IV

If I can add to the slight thread deviation, I have had the pleasure of playing NXNW, at the old Blue Note with the surf trio! Cheers!

Oh my GOD! I remember that show. You guys were really good, and I think I got a chance to meet some of you. We were always against playing any kind of 'Surf Night' with multiple instro bands (not a knock against any band...just too much of a good thing), so we made a point to not play any instrumentals at all at that show. Instead, we did vocal tunes, told lots of dirty jokes, did some Ramones karaoke, and introduced a new instrument - the bass pinata - to the world. Worst possible idea? Handing out baseball bats to audience members to try to knock down the pinata attached to my bass as we played. Definitely NOT our best show, so sorry to digress!

As for The Mariners, in my mind our performance at The Star Bar in Little 5 Points (Atlanta) was one of the very best. We were the second of 3 bands in the show and the only surf band. A band out of Charlotte, NC called "Pop Rocket" opened the show, then we took the stage to a packed house. I mean sardine packed no room to turn around packed!! The feedback from the crowd was awesome and when we closed the show with our instrumental version of "White Wedding" the audience went wild. WoodyJ had told the crowd that we wanted them to know that "old folks could rock too!!" "Hot August Knights" (a Neil Diamond tribute band) was the headliner and they told us that we could open for them anytime we wanted!! It was just a great night!! We sold tons of product and had the time of our lives!!

That's just pathetic. You'd need to grow a pair before we'd share a stage with a ball-less wonder like you. What a poof!

At least the Surf Trio was worthy!
Hell, when they opened for DD in Eugene, I actually liked them better than the Dickster.

I remember that particular one myself as quite a night. Great music from all the bands involved and a very receptive crowd. Highlight for me was setting up my kit next to Kevin if the Hypnotic IV and doing some two-drummer tunes with each other's bands. I miss the Hypnotic IV.

Lets refrain from any personal attacks please. It's okay to violently disagree with what a person is saying, but please don't attack the person. Thanks.

No problem, Brian. I said my piece and will back off this thread so it can get back on track.

Sorry it got jacked in the first place.

Again, MikeG being classy. Man, either you are the biggest asshole on earth or merely ignorant. Which one is it?

Also, no need to doctor a quote like changing my name to "Jake the Fake". It is childish. And don't call people poofs. That is immature and incredibly homophobic.

Alright, guys. Let's take a breather on this for a while.

Mike, did you not know that Jake has survived testicular cancer before you made that attack?
