(Shhhhh....tell your friends, but please don't let PJ know!)
Attention Surf Music fans!
As you may or may not know, recently one of the pioneers of our beloved genre Paul "Mr. Moto" Johnson had his faithful Stratocaster stolen! This was a devastating blow to PJ, who had owned the guitar for many, many years and used it on countless recordings and performances all over the world!
Paul is literally a living legend, having had a major role in the creation, development and proliferation of Surf Instrumental music. His South Bay band The Bel Airs helped usher in the first, original wave of true "Surf " music with their single "Mr. Moto" in 1961. PJ's career continued to flourish throughout the decades, playing with such bands as PJ And Artie, The Galaxies, The Arrows, The Everpresent Fullness, The Packards, The Surfaris, The Hepcats, The Duo-Tones and more! He is still extremely active and in recent years toured in Italy, all over Southern California, and can currently be heard playing with the legendary George Tomsco of The Fireballs!
For a musician, instruments are an extension of the spirit, the passion and the creative force, and are of the utmost importance. For such an influential, talented and wonderful soul as PJ to be without one is a true travesty!
Please join me and the rest of the Surf community in coming together to donate funds to acquire PJ a new guitar!
If you would like to make a contribution, please send it via PAYPAL to reverb.noir@yahoo.com
Thank you so very much in advance for your compassion and generosity! Let's help keep PJ surfin' for many years to come!
And if you have any specific questions, comments or requests, please feel free to email fiberglassjungle@yahoo.com. Thanks!
Again, please PAYPAL to reverb.noir@yahoo.com

I highly encourage everyone here to participate in this fundraiser. Paul Johnson is one of the great forefathers of the music we all love. And he, more than anyone else of his generation, is still a part of this great community that's developed over the decades and into the internet age.
This is an perfect opportunity to lend a hand to a very worthy person, to let him know he's loved, and to acknowledge the accomplishments of a life in music. And, it's a real mitzvah! So please dig deep, and tell all your friends to do the same.

Plus, No guitar legend should ever be without a guitar!
So let's all help out.
Many of us might still be in Iron Maiden cover bands if it weren't for Paul and the sound he helped to create.
edit: although being in an Iron Maiden cover band AND a Surf band would be rad.......hmmmm
Cheers,
Jeff

Basically, I'm going to give it one more week, and that's it! So, if you were on the fence or waiting, please act now to ensure that it gets in!

CURIOSITY: How did the miscreant get his hands on Johnson's Strat?
About a year ago after playing a festival in my home town, I came home at night and felt a cool breeze in the house. It was January, so I figured it was just a cold night until I noticed a few drawers in my bedroom opened. I keep a clean house, so I knew something was amiss.
When I stepped down into my living room I noticed glass all over the the floor: some &^$ $#^& threw a patio chair through the window of the sliding door.
Into one of my bedrooms I went and noticed a closet door open where I kept a back-up Strat and Tremolux head that I've had since the mid 80's. Lucky I had been too lazy to take my 61 Showman and 61 Strat into the house from the gig.
Although the Strat and Tremolux probably ended up in some pawn shop, my Homeowners Insurance made me whole and promptly got me replacements.
Didn't Johnson have a Homeowners Insurance policy to cover his loss?
If not, then the moral of this story is for all you folks out there to get some insurance.
I am a retired cop, not an insurance salesman, so, I a not trying to sell insurance, just passing out some helpful information.

What year was the Strat?
Any personal markings, like a CDL or SSAN engraved on the reverse of the neck plate?
What was the color?
Any unusual dings or scratches on the body or neck?
How about posting a photo of the Strat?
Tell Paul if he owns a house, then his loss is 100% covered. All he has to do is call his insurance agent and make a claim. Everyone who owns a house is required by the lender to have insurance. And even those of us who own are homes outright, have insurance to protect against a loss.

Not all of us own our own home. We all live with different paradigms.
I'll contribute.

Don't understand why it should take so long! Maybe they put it on a barge to San Pedro... Aloha, Kim

Thank you all so very much for the incredible generosity to PJ!
It is deeply appreciated and I know that when all is said and done and PJ is making music again with his new guitar, he will resonate with each and every name that donated!
I'll keep you posted on the next series of events and the what and when regarding the new axe!
This is yet another instance proving what an absolutely incredible bunch of people the members of Surf Guitar 101 and the global Surf instrumental community in general are!!!
