Just to be clear, "Au Revoir" doesn't imply that this band is breaking up, right? You still haven't played Grand Rapids. You can't break up.

I picked up both releases on vinyl from Lee/Dionysus - one during the convention this year, and the other ordered from him after I got home and realized what an idiot I was for not getting both records when I was there. I've been playing Les Agamemnonz NON STOP for the last several weeks and simply cannot get enough. Was just about to start a new thread titled "(Was the) Best Kept Secret of Surf/Instro of the last few years" and gush about these guys. Ok, so maybe not a 'secret' per-se; this is page 3 of a thread dedicated to them after all. So I'll simply bump it with the comment "Perhaps the most overlooked Surf/Instro band of the last few years!". It blows me a way how little these guys are talked about here on SG101. I mean, search the site for exact word or phrase 'les agamemnoz' and get 9 pages of results where the overwhelming majority are citations of plays in various radio shows. Banter about them? Pretty sparse, and deeply deserving of being talked about SOOOO much more! Brilliant recordings from these guys. If you don't have them already, and I suspect many of you don't, open a new browser and get to steppin'. Order everything you can find. Now. Here's an advance "You're welcome". ;) Signed, PS - @BigTikiDude/Jeff - if you've not already lined these guys up for the Convention ...whatchu waitin' for!?!?! \m/ \m/ —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

2028... must be when they come up for parole, 'cause these boys are KILLIN' it. Not that we all have to like the same things, but I'm with you Jeff. Pretty hard to get my head around anyone considering themselves fans of Surf/Instro not digging this band. —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

Jeff, did they name anything particular reasons, why they don't like the band? Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin) |

I would agree that Les A's sound quirky, but that's what I like about them. Too predictable can be boring at times. Vive Au Revoir. Rev —Canadian Surf http://www.urbansurfkings.com/ Last edited: Sep 05, 2016 11:56:53 |

I have to confess that I am one of those people that couldn't get into them for quite a while. I got the download of the first album a year or two ago, and it failed to leave much impression on me the few times I listened to it. I sometimes have a hard time with really trad new stuff as I immediately start comparing it to the old stuff and it often just doesn't measure up - whereas the more modern approaches that (I'd say, anyway) add to the tradition are definitely more to my taste and stand on their own without me comparing them to the classics. But with so many people raving about Les Agamemnonz after their appearance at the Surfer Joe festival in June, I decided to give them another shot. The week after SJ took place I had to travel to Santa Clara, CA, and there at some point went for a long walk with the album on my iPod so I could pay close attention. I started getting it at that point. The first song that really impressed me was Salma VI, and from there I think I started getting what the band was about. They have a very unique rhythmic approach and yes, quirky melodic approach, and once I recognized that it started falling into place and I began to enjoy them. I checked out the second album on Spotify, and soon after ordered "De A a Z" (both albums) on CD from Double Crown. I've been listening to it a great deal since then, and the more I get to know the songs, the more I love them! It's now become some of my favorite surf music of the past three years. It just goes to show that sometimes it takes time until one's heart and mind are in the right place for the music. —Ivan |
