Permalink Carr Mercury - 1x12 Combo Amp

New Topic

Selling a Carr Mercury 1x12 combo in excellent condition!

I recently received this in trade, and I'm so impressed with it that I'm selling to fund a Rambler in an attempt to become a One Amp Guy.

Things I was expecting:
- Excellent build quality
- Awesome overdrive tones
- Warm cleans

Things that blew me away:
- How usable/effective the 4-way attenuator is
- Both the cleans and the drive tones are incredible
- Much louder than I expected, and with more headroom than I've ever had out of an 8-watt amp
- The reverb is gorgeous. I'd say better than Fender onboard, and it almost feels 6G15 tank-like at full tilt.

The attenuator makes this all the grab-and-go you need. At the full 8 watts it's loud enough to keep up with a drummer, but the attenuator lets you dial in any version of clean, gritty or grind at whatever volume suits your home situation. And I'm not joking on the reverb - As someone who builds small combos with 2-knob reverb myself, this was really impressive for a single-knob reverb.

As I mentioned, this sold me on a higher-wattage Carr that can go bedroom-to-stage with the headroom I need for surf music.

Sale Pending: I have it listed on Reverb but I'll do $1650 shipped as an SG101 special!

Ty, good luck with the sale.

I had both the Mercury and a couple of Ramblers. The quality of Steve Carr's amps is superb. But those two amps are very different. The Rambler is going to be a lot cleaner and there is a fair amount of treble in the tone.

You probably know all that, but just in case...

Thanks for the heads up - I'm a fan of clean, and a fan of treble, so it sounds like I'm headed in the right direction!

I did just give the Mercury a quick spin this evening, and I'm still blown away by how dimensional it sounds. I'm not used to that kind of depth from smaller combos, and it's a shame I can't just keep it and buy a Rambler. C'est la vie!
