Permalink Guitar Player magazine features a story and video with the D-Rays' lead guitarist Erick Coleman!

I came across this story mostly by accident - it's Dan Erlewine trying to find out more about a mysterious ceramic guitar that somebody brought into his Athens, Ohio shop, and he enlists the aid of the D-Rays' lead guitarist Erick Coleman - the D-Rays being the great surf-garage band from Athens, OH! Erick is also an important guy at the Stew-Mac company which makes and distributes a lot of great guitar parts, and he knows his stuff (I've had a chance to see that in person on several occasions). Anyway, check this out, very VERY cool!

Thanks for sharing. Awesome video describing a very unique and kool guitar.

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

Interesting. Wonder what that thing weighs.

I'd be afraid to drop it. ( An aside. I had e a solid clear acrylic Stratocaster once and it weighed a tonne! )

Hey! I missed this, thanks for posting it. The guitar, though really weird, was very playable and sounded super cool. It was totally hollow so it didn't weigh too much. Turns out the guy who built it was working closely with Don Dixon on the project, who also had a hand in the design and testing of the Echoplex. From what I gathered from talking to family members the idea of the guitar may have actually been Don's with Jake being the facilitator. At least two of the instruments had Don's name on the peghead.
