Any recommendations on what brand/model of strings I should look for, for my Johnson JG-622-E acoustic-electric bass? It's not been played for 9 years, and has the same strings on it from when I'd bought it 12 years ago. Finally got around to picking it up from my Dad's house, this past weekend, and after checking that the battery hadn't leaked, after all these years, I proceeded to "start" (tried) playing Pink Floyd's "Money." Tried tuning it, and it'd stay in tune for "a couple of seconds," then go out. So, yeah, the strings are toast. Had a bit more success, yesterday with it being acclimated to its new environment, but I do need new strings, so I can start jamming on it, more regularly.

I went to the Johnson Guitars web site, and looked up the JG-622 (Deep Body Jumbo link). According to the specs, it came with Martin strings. Checked Musician's Friend, and they have two models of Martin strings (the light gauge won't be available until next month). Any suggestions, other than Martin strings, will be appreciated and considered, though I'm going to want to lean toward light gauge strings, to overcome the handicaps in my fretting hand. When I go to the second note of "Money," I have to hold the string with both my ring and pinky fingers, as my pinky finger don't want to go where it's s'pposed to, otherwise, and won't stay put unless helped by my ring finger.

If your acoustic-electric has a long scale (34"), my favorites are Thomastik-Infield JF344 Jazz flatwounds. The size is .043-.100, I think. They are relatively low tension strings which make them ideal for use on an acoustic. The downside is that they have become pretty expensive. The upside is that they last pretty much forever.
If your acoustic electric bass has a short scale there are other options, including putting together as set from singles. And if you prefer roundwounds (I don't - personal preference), T-I makes phosphor bronze ones but they may not be lower tension.
Bass Strings Online is a great source that I use. They sell all the major brands. Call them and tell them what you are looking for and they will steer you in the right direction, Here's the link to their T-I page:
