I just got picked to be an extra in an episode of a new Netflix series filming here in Pittsburgh, set to air during the 2017 season. Filming my scenes start this Monday. How about that? If I don't end up on the cutting room floor, I'll let everyone know what and when to watch.

I've been given some good advice, which is to do exactly what I'm supposed to, if I want to come back for extra days, or even finish my first day. And, I'd like to do more episodes if possible.
As for being scary-looking, my role is actually as a prisoner. I made Barb take my submission photographs as "mugshots" and they're what got me the part. When I got to wardrobe fitting, they told me I matched a specific background character they wanted.

I used to do a lot of extra work in my late 20s here in the UK. They kept casting me as a policeman, very often plainclothes because I had my own brown leather jacket… I had great fun beating up striking miners and throwing them into the back of a car!! I once had to play a miner too, running from an explosion. The makeup people went to town on us with the coal dust. What we didn’t know was they were only going to film our fleeing legs, and all the film crew were laughing at us because we had all been made up to look like Al Jolson…
Advice; take a book to read, and whatever the direction, keep at it until you hear cut. Even if you disappear round a corner out of sight.

I'm almost afraid to show these. Here are the "mug shots" my wife took (she really didn't want to) that got me the part. In 1970's prison dungarees, I present quite a sight. Apparently, no one else thought to send in anything that looked like these.
In case you're wondering, I practiced this expression in a mirror to get the look I wanted, and to be able to put it on anytime I have to.

Noel was such a nice guy until surf got hold of him. He looks like he's been running with the wrong crowd.

That was fun! There were maybe thirty of us cast as background extra prisoners in the scene being shot. Two FBA agents were being escorted down a cell block hall. We were all around, inside cells on the first floor, and overhanging the railing on the second. Our direction was to vigorously and loudly shout at them as they walked the length of the hall. We did. Over, and over, and over... Long shots. Close-ups. Tracking shots. Crowd shots. Principle filming took maybe ninety minutes.
After about an hour, ten of us were chosen for additional filming. I was one of them until the director asked for a young prisoner. So I was done for the day.
I won't know about any additional work this week or next until each evening before. But I've agreed to work every day I'm called, and to do other episodes if they want me.
I have no idea if I'll be in the final cut, or be recognizable even if I am, let alone if I'll be called again. But it sure was fun!
