Permalink 1972 Fender Pro Reverb - SOLD

New Topic

I've decided to sell my '72 Pro Reverb (Chassis #A15389). It's an incredible amp - the ultimate gigging Fender, in my opinion - but I'm no longer playing out and am downsizing my amp collection. Great pedal platform that can also be pushed into natural overdrive without deafening the neighborhood (unlike a Twin!)

Silverface Fenders are easily the best deal going for handwired tone in an affordable package. With proper maintenance this amp will outlast anything being sold off the shelf today.

A few years ago, I had it serviced by Abell Audio (best in Ohio), who installed a grounded 3-prong cord, removed the death cap, set the bias and gave it an overall clean bill of health. I also installed shielded reverb cables, which are less noisy than the originals. The original speakers were played out, so I fitted it with two Weber speakers - one Alnico, one Ceramic. This combo gives the best of both flavors, as you have the warmth and roundness of Alnico blended with the punch and response of Ceramic. As a result, it runs incredibly quiet and has all the punch and push you want from a vintage 2x12 amp.

Cosmetically it's in great shape, as well, with the minor wear you'd expect from a 40+ year amp that's been played but well cared for. It doesn't smell of smoke, bar, or basement, just good clean Fender amp!

Not only that, but I'm also including the original 2-button footswitch, the original reverb cables, some of the original documentation and a reproduction dust cover.

SOLD - The chassis is going to a fellow forum member, and I'll be listing the cabinet and speakers separately.

Not interested in too many trades, though I could be talked into a Gretsch 6120, a Gretsch Billy-Bo, an AVRI Jaguar, a Fender 6G2 Princeton or a Blackface Champ + Cash.

More photos available on Flickr. Note, the photos show it with two Weber California speakers, which are no longer installed: https://www.flickr.com/photos/99491499@N05/albums/72157651626209355

I can't tell if this has the tube rectifier or the solid state. Can you advise? Also, I have seen staggered speakers on '73 Pro Reverbs. How sure are you of the manufacture date because I think it's earlier.

Solid state rectifier? Hmm. Both schematics I have for the SF Pro Reverb circuits show either a 5U4 or a GZ34. (One of 'em has the mid control depicted that was never actually installed on some amps.)

Anyway, no doubt though, this would be a great size gigging package for someone. Really pretty - Good luck Ty!

Many thanks for the kind words, gents.

Matt - Ah, I seem to remember several Pro Reverb conversations we've had around other amps. I did a bit of date checking, and I was a year off. The chassis number is A15389, which puts it firmly in 1972. I've updated the original post. And it is tube rectified by a 5U4GB.

Great amp - Pretty close to a Blackface Pro Reverb at half the price!

That's an EXCELLENT price for that amp. I love the Pro Reverb combo amps and it's always been one of my favorites.
