Just wondering what's the consensus on these, awesome or abomination?

I love a telemaster personally, but fender missed the mark with these IMO.
No rosewood fb and no wiggle stick essentially make it something I don't really care for.
There was another discussion here on them, I think in a namm thread, maybe not one devoted to these, but most gave them a solid "meh", if my memory is correct.

"No rosewood fb and no wiggle stick essentially make it something I don't really care for."

Exactly!

Also, too much money.

Fender - make an offset MIM with Bigsby for around $700. I think that would surf.

Other builders have done this model much better. Fender has taken a half-hearted stab at it.

An acquaintance of mine bought one of those the other day; he's a Blues guy, and he didn't buy it as a Jazzmaster, he digs Teles, and he bought it as a different type of a Tele. He really likes it. (So far, anyway.)

I'm a Jazzmaster/Jaguar guy (Although I do have a few Tele/Esquires) and you could probably put me down in the 'Meh' category. Not a fan, not a hater, either. Probably be kind of cool with a Bigsby, as GregEl stated.

I concur.
On the same note, I have a parts tele with a forearm route which I absolutely love. The thing rips and is super comfy.
If you're gonna build a offset though, it's gotta have a wiggler.

If I had one, I'd whammy-ise it

(Edit - there you go. Fixed LoL

I've built a few of those in the past.
The extra body mass often makes it sound slightly different than a Tele.
I like them but they're not very imaginative.
Just kind of a mash up.

Jeff

I'm a Tele guy, so it's an abomination to me. Just make it a Jag or Jazzy and call it good.

Either you surf, or you fight.

I almost went Telemaster but ended up full Tele, with Bigsby. No regrets. It's an entirely different breed of animal and FMIC has gone all Dr. Moreau on us with horrid chimeras. The corrupting influence of hipsterism takes its toll.

Squink Out!

I think there are guys on this board you could walk by on the street and call a hipster and not know they were an undercover surf nerd.

"...The corrupting influence of hipsterism takes its toll." - very enlightening. Hmm. Who's being hip and what toll is being suffered.. and by whom?
Ponderous questions - but as for the guitar, there are those of us who like the choice of whammy/non-whammy guitars. The offset jazzmaster body with a tele pickup setup is kind of hip - most likely to the guy/gal who paid for what he/she liked (is that OK, JO?).. I don't see any "toll" (as in negative consequence) there. This isn't anything profoundly new.. there are the trem/hardtail preferences with strat players; archtop tail/bigsby preferences with hollow body players. Isn't it nice to have choices - even in these days of PC correctness/suppression?

This combination of design elements is not new. It has been around, in this exact form for almost ten years, FWIW.

Jeff

i built a partscaster version out of a Squier Standard Telecaster, a GFS Tele bridge pickup, and a One Eyed Jack body like 4 years ago

I forget why I sold it. I bought a CV50 Tele after

Here's one we built a few years ago.

That looks sick with the gold foils.

I've posted this before, but this was mine. It's currently apart, but I'm slowly accumulating parts to reassemble as its own beast.
