Mel,
is that the same club where The Alvarados and Mach IV played at around 2000?
when Baja Marty and I came up.

wish I could have seen the show, but you'll be down here soon, looking forward to it.

Where exactly is Berkeley? This place seems ideal for a 'Verb show this summer.

Berkeley is on the East side of the Bay just North of Oakland. This
was the first surf show at this venue, and it was ideal. Danny pro-
moted the show. Maybe he could tell you how it went financially for
the club, and whether they seemed open to having more shows
there. It was a decent sized crowd for a surf show. There's been
virtually no surf shows at the Hotel Utah in S.F. this year. That
has been been the main venue in the Bay Area, and the place
where the Verb played when you had to stay behind, Jake.

I still can't believe Danny played like that. Danny did you resort to an open E tuning or something on some songs?

Yes, Hava nagila and Ali Baba which are virtually indistinguishable on rhythm guitar. Also 'and the angels sing' 3 chords A,E and G. The rest were muted drip or double picking or simple leads.

We had a total 45 paying guests, above break even by 10, netted approx $40/band. This was with heavy promotion. Financially it would be tough for you being out of town. This club expects to be paid before the band, yet does little promotion. Still, we'll try it again in the fall when the students are back and more time to promote. My main goal was to have the club familiar with the Tmen so as to book us with non-surf bands, didn't quite work out.

Jake,
I suggest you stick to SF, notify the clubs when you're coming thru and see if they'll put you on with an established band. I can put up a couple guys for a night if you need.

Danny, sorry to hear about your injury! I was looking forward to hearing the Tmen at Speakeasy this Saturday. Will you still come to the show?

Don

I'll be there.

BTD,

The Alvarados and Mach IV played one show together at McNalley's Irish Pub on College Ave in Rockridge. Blakes is a "real" music venue with a stage area and PA and all. Pretty cool place, and they even had PBR on tap. Hope to see the Tomorrow Men play there before too long!

Danny dude I know about hand injurys Crying back in the mid 90s days I was working @ bagel shop and the boss always told us never drop your palm down when you slice so in 1 of the lunch runs man I droped my palm down and this is the left hand and a week before a surf show man I did drop my palm and sliced all the way through the other side from mid palm all the way around to the other side and cutting vessals and muscle it was bad, lost a bunch of blood I was out all summer and @ that time Marie my wife had to help me with everyday things it sucked and I had to always keep my hand dry there was no surfing or guitar playing for 2 3 months but it's all good now my hand healed but I am just glad to have hands.
The Doc back then said I was lucky and I wouldn't be playing guitar today if it weren't for the fast ER folks in action to save the nerves in my hand.

Danny I wish you a speedy recovery Exclamation
