You are correct, the sound is different to The Atlantics original version.
On the original it was either a Wem Copicat or Boss DM-3 delay pedal & Fender Reverb tank. On this demo there's no reverb and the amp was set at it's lowest volume.

Gorgeous about sums it up. With all the patch editing available & footswitchable it does seem to be _ the_ thing for the echo-oriented tone, especially if one needed to employ that live & didn't already have something like that. This was an interesting set of demos because of the ease to compare to the originals. Having found some really good settings for my El Cap - over time - I'm faced with documenting them and then occasionally wishing "dang I wish this thing had about 11 presets." Re-thinking this hard.

Yep, all those tape units have their idiosyncracies that give them their sound. Having done a bit of that (chasing sounds of various tape machines) using the El Cap I can't justify one either in practical terms. BUT have lately discovered & decided I don't have to be practical. I just spent about 45 minutes getting fairly close to the newer version of Night Star Martin demo'd (just using that as an example) - but at my age I have to ask what's my time worth, i.e., when I want it I want to step on it & have it there. So I may still do something eminently UN-practical & get one. Besides, I like echo.

Thanks Ivan. I'd love to have one 'cause the quirks of the old units intrigue me, and it would be nice to have that many presets even if the initial setup is tedious. But after that just step on it & go.

Pretty spendy though, if one factors in the potential inbound duties. H&C advised me when I contacted them that it could be in the area of $150USD on top of the shipping & the unit. Trouble is they told me they've heard where they went right through for nothing, or got attacked by customs for the full rip-off. Suppose one wouldn't know until they got the bad news at this end of the line. Another case for a government not being in the business of being in business.

Again, welcome to sg101! Your Hall & Collins Signature Echo has caused quite a stir, in a very good way.

I hope you don't mind answering some questions about your echo. I think it comes with all of Hank Marvin's echo setting as select-by-number presets. Meaning, to get the specific echo for Dawn Patrol or other songs, I would just scroll through the echo patterns menu to find the echo for that song. Do I have this right? Then, is it only fully custom echo patterns which need programming?

Would an American distributor help with importation? Thank you!

I'm interested in Noel's thought/question RE US distribution; maybe they're not being built on sufficient scale to make that practicable, don't know. I'm not savvy in these "business" things & what gets hammered by customs duties & what doesn't. Everyone has their personal "price point." While in the midst of acquiring a new guitar at the moment I still could see saving for one of these 'cause I love echo; but not till I can run to ground the issue of inbound duties. Anyohe have expertise in what triggers US Customs to hammer something, when ordering several albums or an effects pedal or something else from off-shore is not?
