Stopped by a friends house today and he gave me an old Traynor yba 2a bass mate amp.
It's been in storage for about 25 years and looks like it.
I think it's 20 watts with 2 el84 and 2 12ax7 tubes.
Anyone have any experience with these? Is it worth fixing up?

Traynor amps are built to last. They were/are a mainstay if Canadian bands for years and years. My first amp was a 15 watt one, and then I had one that weighed about 100 lbs.
Definitely worth fixing up!

No, Traynor is crap; you should just get rid of it by sending it to me. I'll pay the postage and dispose of it properly for free.

It's just a head, not the combo. I'm probably going to remove the chassis tomorrow and start cleaning it up. The bass pot is missing a knob and won't turn. The tolex has about an 1/8 of an inch of crud on it. I have some spare tubes from another amp that I can put in and see what happens.
Jo, I can't ship it to you at the moment. This thing is so nasty it would be considered hazmat!

I had a Bass Mate combo with 1-15" back in around 1975. It was ok for practicing bass alone, but not loud enough to practice with a band. Our lead guitarist really liked it, though.

Yeah , I have the combo Bassmate with the 1-15 ....great great home amp .
Not really loud enough to stand up to a drummer ...if you turn it up all the way it gets way too crunchy . But its my at home practice amp ,the 15" and closed back combo has nice bottom . Add a fuzz or something and look out ,classic sound .
looky here ..nice Traynor amp site

Hey Mikey,
Great score! I had one of those years back. Killer meat and potatoes amp. That might even be the one I had! Does it have a Metro Music sticker on it?
I also had the mac daddy, big brother of that one a bit later for a while as well, the yba3A. I bought it initially based on it's 7 amp mains fuse. When the bass player in your band owns a music store, you get to rotate through all kinds of cool stuff. Kustom K-200 3-15 (ooh in "charcoal"), Sunn Coliseum Lead, Model T, 100 watt Marshal Lead. I couldn't play any of those. I did have an Acoustic 150 with 6-10s for a long time just before going back to a Twin Reverb. Damn, have I really been insulting the electric guitar for 53 years?
Nice, very, very nice. Clean it, tweak it, love it. What a great grab!

The Traynor lives! Finally got some time off work. Got it cleaned up and re tubed. Fired it up and it sounds awesome for a little practice amp. Deep bottom end (it is a bass amp). No hum or noise. Need to try it with the tank and some pedals.
Anyone have any idea of what the resistance of the stock speaker or cab is? I tried it with a 16ohm 4×12.

I have a YBA-1 (it's a 50W Plexi with a bass tone stack) that is the bees knees and a 2x12 100W combo thats a superlead in a twin cab. both killers.
el84 = vox in my book, an ac15
