You need a guitar, a clean amp, and an outboard reverb unit. Enjoy. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

And judicious use of your guitar's wiggle stick. And the occasional use of tremolo - pedal or built in. —Danny Snyder I am now playing trumpet with Prince Buster tribute band 'Balzac' Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

An E-bow, Moogerfooger, and a Death Metal pedal and your good to go Oh, snap! Like Brian said clean amp and outboard reverb. I like a tremelo pedal and chorus occasionally. I also like a Big Muff and Daddy-O pedals for the fuzzy stuff. RT |

Here's a little more help: Check ebay for reissued Fender Reverb Units. You should be able to get one for less than $400. What type of guitar/amp do you have? Fender is the choice of MANY, but the most important element is SINGLE COIL PICKUPS for your guitar. Does that help? |

I've noticed lately that a Jaguar or Jazzmaster can sound very surfy even without effects. They may be the only guitar that has an inherent surf sound, especially when adding a little palm muting. Listening to the Torquays, they turn the reverb way down sometimes and it still sounds very surfy. |

In my early days of looking for surf music I found a Ventures collection that substituted the surfbeat with an 80s beat, reverb with a chorus pedal. I threw it away. No one should have to hear that. |

yes, preferrably two. they are great for putting under an amp to tilt it a bit if it lacks the legs Rules to live by #314: |

reverb is the way to go, that's all there is to it, works best with a tube amp with a tiny bit of grind to it. tube reverb tank = nirvana..... electro harmonix holy grail or digitech digiverb are budget friendly alternatives, which won't get that sound, but will get close —Rules to live by #314: |

Only if it's running in tandem with a phase shifter. Preferrably rack-mounted. -Warren —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

What about some delay, or some slap-back echo? I may be letting the "billy" side of my surf sound show, here, but I figure the right amount of slap-back in an instrumental could do some "neat tricks" for the overall vibe of a tune. Matt —Fast Cars & Loud Guitars! |

Danelectro Spring King is a good choice! Floor-reverb with real springs. And also a "kick pad", very warm and good sounding. Made in steel, no plastic. |

I use a tremlo pedal since the tremlo circuit in my Vibrolux Reverb isn't so hot but the biggest bang for the buck sound wise is an outboard Fender reverb tank!!! Funny, no one's thought to suggest that?!?! Ron (ToneBoy) |

Word on the street is that those pedals blow. Also, they are not simple pedals. Also, word on the street is that they are great. |
