Does anyone have the vinyl pressing of the BM's Dumb Loud Hollow Twang or have you heard it?
I found a few copies for sale in Germany and I was thinking of sending one to a friend who prefers to ingest all their music via vinyl because he's a snob but I've read somewhere that the original recording might be a little rough. I have the "Deluxe" rerecording from 2003 and I think it sounds great.
Just trying to see if it's worth $30~ to buy the vinyl for someone who's still being gently persuaded into the cult of surf rock.
thanks!

I have a copy. It isn't something you should get for somebody that is trying to be persuaded to like surf music. Get them the Deluxe re-recording or any of their other records.

Okay, thanks. I just found the 2003 deluxe on vinyl, so I guess I'll try that one.

As much that is said about their first record being a rough one time recording, it's not horrible. Some bands wish they could sound that good.

I found a pretty HQ youtube clip of the 98 album. It's not terrible, but it's definitely not as clean as the 03 revision. The levels are out of balance. Seems like the cymbals are way too loud compared to the rest of the instruments.

I have got the "Dumb..." here on clear vinyl. I like this first release much more than the later Dumb... deluxe version.
The complete mood on this album is perfect surf music for me!
For me especially THIS 1st recording is an all time classic!
The "deluxe" version is good of course, but is played also a bit different. too clean... not the cool mood from the first recording imo.
So everyone has got a different taste, especially when we talk about food and surf music and girls...
I would you suggest deeeeeeefinitely the Dumb... 1st release as vinyl!!!
— Twang cheers!

Wow, I didn't know there was a cassette.
Wonder if there is an 8 track or wax cylinder?

I meant the original cassette, not a cassette version of Dumb Loud Hollow Twang. Sorry to confuse!

Resurrecting this old thread and apologies if this has been covered, but am I in the minority of liking the original recording of Dumb Loud Hollow Twang WAY better than, IMO, the overwrought and overproduced 2003 redo? I have the vinyl of the latter, and am listening to it as au write this, but I would still rather listen to the compressed YouTube version of the original. I’m not sure what they were going for, but the redo wrings all the rock’n’roll out of these fine, fine songs. It’s like when Phil Spector tried to produce The Ramones.

If you are then I'm there with you because to me there's no question that the original is the superior version.
