They're the pickups for the Pure Vintage '65 Jaguar. I found a seller on Ebay that sold singles of them. They were $10+ more than the AVRI but I wanted to try them out based on all the rave reviews I've read on them. I'll report back when everything's setup. |

FYI, there is a seller on ebay selling AVRI '62 pickups as AV'65 Pure Vintage Pickups. |

Damnit, oh well. Where did you hear? |

Where did I hear what? Also, it just occurred to me that the photo could be wrong and the actual product could be the AV'65 pickup. But that photo is definitely a AVRI. |

The pickups are arriving today. How can I tell if they're the AVRI or AV '65? |

If the pole pieces are beveled, they are AVRI '62. |

If anyone's curious the pickups arrived from the seller Jake posted above: they arrived in the packaging appropiate for the AV 65 pickups and a lone pickup in a ziplock bag. They are not beveled and appear to be legit. Sorry for the crappy pics: Bridge: Neck 1: Neck 2: This also arrived for some inspiration: |

mine about a year and a half ago. After a year, I spent the money on a pro set up, a stay trem, a new nut, and some Kalium strings. WOW! Easily three times the instrument it was on arrival. Even the trem bar is happier! It is no longer a mere novelty. No tuning problems. The PUPS are well within reason. I play it through a bass combo and a Fender Supersonic 22, so I get real bottom without detonating a speaker. Still, not as fat bottomed as a P bass, but for the right song, it gets the job done. mj —mj

Nice, whats the rope thingy for? Dampening the strings? Heres mine, used one I 200 bucks shipped on reverb, resprayed with those duplicolor lacquer spray cans, took the staytrem bridge off my defunct VM Jag and put it on this to see what it was like on that. Very fun guitar. Last edited: Mar 21, 2016 09:27:19 |

First off, THAT IS A LOVELY GIT! Yes the rope thingy is an old bolo tie, probably from the 40s or 50s, used to dampen certain overtones that are not permitted in four out of five religious texts. I originally used a field expedient hoodie tie, but I happened to notice the bolo nicely matched my pic guard. I have since re-drapped it in a more tasteful yet effective manner. I LOOOOVE the color on your bass!

Killer refinish. Does it look that god close up? Looks like a factory refin! |

Definitely not a pro job. "good from far, far from good" but you do have to get pretty close before its apparent...I didn't bother wet sanding it so it's got a little peel going on but kinda made a metallic satin look I liked. I kinda wanna take everything off and spray with nitro and do the upside down duster/heat gun trick. Last edited: Mar 26, 2016 15:44:02 |
