I got to see ELP a couple times around 77,78. I liked how he would spin his keyboard on one leg. Another of the prog rock greats gone |

So talented and creative. Saw him only once with vocalist Greg Lake. — |

Details are now out that it was a self inflicted gunshot wound. Even more sad. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

This really sucks. So many greats are leaving. RIP Keith. —Either you surf, or you fight. |

My dad was a huge ELP fan when I was a kid, so I ended up becoming a pretty big fan myself. This news breaks my heart, and because it's looking like a suicide, it's really hitting me harder. Please, if anyone here starts getting suicidal thoughts or urges, PLEASE GET HELP! Suicide doesn't get rid of pain, it just passes it on to family and friends. |

I don't think I’ve ever read this sentiment expressed so well or so succinctly. There's a lot of wisdom here. Thank you, Josh, for passing it on. —-Tim |

Brain Salad Surgery No disrespect intended, it was a free flexible single available by one only issue of the New Musical Express as promotion of ELP's forthcoming album Brain Salad Surgery. The single didn't appear on the album and as far as I know couldn't be brought anywhere, least not England anyway. I used to play the heck out of it, one of the best ELP tunes ever. Keith Emerson. Clever guy and great entertainer. Last edited: Mar 13, 2016 06:33:07 |

Crumble, I've never heard that track. Why wasn't that on the album? That track is a thousand times better than Benny The Bouncer (proof that even the all-time great albums have a stinker on them). SilverFlash wrote:
Thanks SilverFlash. I didn't come up with that phrase. I read it on a shirt on a suicide awareness walk-a-thon event here in california. It rung absolutely true with me, so I pass it along when I can. echobeach wrote:
Hijack away, echobeach! Especially with such a great resource as beyondblue.org. Another resource is the suicide prevention hotline 1 (800) 273-8255 and their website http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ So if anyone is feeling like poor Keith Emerson was feeling, that there is no hope and such, please use one of the resources above. Or just reach out to anyone to talk. Even me! PM me and we'll get you sorted out. Like I said, this topic really hits home with me. Two young men that were like brothers to me decided to end their own lives, as well as quite a few of my fellow soldiers that were with me in Iraq in the 4th ID (in fact, there have been more suicides in my unit than combat deaths). These deaths leave voids that never go away. So I sincerely hope that anyone here battling life will reach out to someone for help before choosing death. I'll stop preaching now. I've had the song Tarkus and the song Trilogy in my head all week. Such great tracks. Such great talent. He will be missed. RIP Keith. May the next life grant you the peace and serenity that eluded you in this recent life. Last edited: Mar 14, 2016 11:27:14 |

I'm Guessing. After many long world tours they decided give the British fans something special for free... It's called the Brain Salad Surgery NME flexi disc single, available on eBay for various prices. Surely it must be a bonus track on one of their remastered CDs by now. And yes it's a bit of a humorous track like Benny the Bouncer but I love the sound of the keyboard whatever he was using, it sounds like 10 moog oscillators per note!
