Or was it just a "made up" group with rotating session players?
I'm sitting here listening to the Out of Limits album - I LOVE this stuff.
I've always loved the single, and it's quirky nature, with slightly more sophistication in arrangement than many surf tunes with which I'm familiar.
Now I'm listening to the album and this is practically a concept album, with full on quirky overload (and all too quick fade outs on the songs!). Of course the concept gives it an excuse for using a lot of the same ideas over and over...
I like that there are sort of 3 versions of Out of Limits. I have to wonder if John Entwistle heard the 3rd version with the horn gliss that appears so similarly in Underture from Tommy.
Are the other Marketts albums this cool? What about anything else from the period?

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Marketts was a bunch of studio musicians from the Wrecking Crew in L.A. I may be wrong though.

The Marketts (on record) were the "Wrecking Crew", the famous shifting group of L.A. session players that played on the majority of the hit records made in L.A. in the 60's. Tommy Tedesco said, in the "Wrecking Crew" movie that there was no group, the Markets, when the record was made. It was totally the wrecking crew. He, among others (Bill Pittman, Al Casey, Jerry Cole, Glen Campbell?) played guitar on the records. When the records became hits, the producers had to come up with a band to play on the road. The Wrecking Crew were so busy playing sessions, and making so much money, that touring was not an option for them, at that time. Watch the movie. It is GREAT!

I actually saw the movie on a broadcast network one day, but I just totally missed the Marketts reference - or it didn't resonate at the time.
I know those guys pretty much played on pretty much everything - even things that there were actual bands for! So I'm not surprised.
Thanks.

Seems like the Vulcanes toured as the Mark-etts at least did some shows under that name.
I believe John Mason was their lead guitar player.
Believe I read that tidbit in Dalley's book.

Yup. You're right, Eddie. According to Bob Dalley, members of the Vulcanes toured as the Marketts, the Routers, and even the Surfers!
