It's not easy. I moved to Florida in 2011 from NYC and it took me forever to get a surf band going. There are more surfers and musicians in Fl than you can imagine but not much of a surf music scene.I could not get a band together. I had given up and my wife put an ad out for me one last time and I found a father and son. Dad was a drummer and avid surf nut his son was an amazing guitar player. Then a bass player who turned out to live a few blocks down from me was a surf fanatic. Instant band and great players. Now I'm in Milwaukee WI, job move. I am at the point where I want to get a band going but I don't know how much interest there is in Surf Music on the Great Lakes. |

tvardy, if you are in Milwaukee, there are 2 great surf bands in your neighborhood already: The Exotics (been around since the 90's), and The Revomatics. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I've played in bands over 30 years. I can tell you most emphatically that starting up any band, especially a surf band and then keeping it all together, is very difficult to do. And it's probably the same wherever you might live. The best advice I can give you is to just stay focused and meet and jam with as many musicians as you can. You'll eventually meet people who are like minded. —www.djpete.net Nathanial: "Lawyers don't surf." Last edited: Feb 17, 2016 15:14:38 |

I'd be there in a flash but I'm already pretty committed. I'll keep an ear and an eye out for ya. Mj mj

You don't need to wait until you find a bass player. Get started as an acoustic duo and drums similar to the Duo Tones and OuterWave and start out playing gigs. Who knows you might find a bass player in the audience at one of your gigs. Good luck! —Happy Sunsets! |

JO, why not pressure the Big Tiki Dude to swing by and audition? I know location has always been a factor for him and Orange seems quite convenient. Insect Surfers |
