Have GAS... I am looking hard at5 watt tube amps. Most not be a modelling amp. Only requirements are. It should have an output to a cab and an effects loop. ( would also be nice to be able to turn it down to a lower wattage.)
Have looked at Vox, Marshall, Orange, Blackstar and am now effectively going in circles...

Suggestions????? Hmmm

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

Buguera makes a fun little 5 watt/1 watt/ 0.1. with a headphone jack. I forget if it has a loop output. It sounded quite nifty with the factory speaker but pretty close to hot damn with an upgrade.

Cool

Thanks for the tip MJ. I didn't think to check out Buguera. A buddy of mine runs a somewhat larger tube amp of theres and swears by it. I'll have to check it out.

You didn't like the Blackstar?

The problem is that aia like them all....lol I keep leaning towards the VOX AC4TVH with cab then bounce to the Marshall DSL5C. looking for pros and cons by any users if anyone has experience with them.

I have an HT40 that I really like but I don't play surf on it. It has a nice clean channel though. It's s great plug in and jam amp. Love the crunch and cranking the clean channel gets fun also.

HT40 is a nice amp but I am looking for something in the 5 watt range and all tube. I have a Roland Cube for puttering around in the living room but it's not quite a tube amp. I also have a Beautifull 100 watt Beckemer amp but it's a little too loud for noodling.......lol
REally really like the Vox Amps but as Rory Gallagher fanatic there is no suprise there.

Isn't a Champ a five watt tube amp?

Oops, never mind... It doesn't have everything you are looking for.

Is there a difference between tube and SS amps when playing low volume?

Teiscofan,
This suggestion does not fit your description for "all tube" so feel free to dismiss it or move on BUT;
I have found that my Quilter 101 Mini head sounds and feels really good at low volumes when compared to my vintage, small 3-5 watt tube amps and it has an effects loop. I am struck by how easily I can mimic the sound of these great old amps and it's all analog, no modeling. I find myself using it a lot for quiet practice.
FWIW, I consider myself at heart to be a tube amp guy and have owned and still own many of the classics.

Cheers,
Jeff

I'm very happy with my 4w Vox AC4 12".

THanks for all the suggestions. The VOX AC4C1 won out in the end. No external effects loop but the VOX Gas took over. The guitar might indicate why..... Lol I am only slightly obsessed with Rory gallaghers music. I figured I could do surf as well on it so it would be a good choice.

Can't go wrong with one of those AC4's
Congrats!

Thanks Jeff . I am very happy with it. The Marshall was very intriguing but...... the VOX won..... Guitar
