The "Gig Disasters" thread is hilarious but I thought something on the flipside was needed for balance. 
For me, it was when Chris Isaak was shooting his series up here in Vancouver.
We were doing a sidewalk acoustic/small PA performance in the Kitsilano neighbourhood/shopping district when our lead singer spotted Chris across the street. Our guy went straight into "Somebody's Cryin'"...Chris waited patiently for the crosswalk at the traffic lights, calmly strode up to one of our mic stands, sang harmony to finish off the song, shook hands, polite wave, and was off with a smile. Just another day.

We once sent a cassette tape of our demo to the organizer of a 2 day open air festival in the Netherlands. To our surprise we were programmed on the main stage just before the main gig on saturday night. At the time we had 12 man band with a lot of horns, dancers and even a fire breather!
The gig went great and we had a lot of response from the audience. (more than 8,000 visitors we were told). But afterwards the organizers were confused because they booked a band that played fusion and funk but what we did on stage was nothing like it! We were soul/new wave band.
After half an hour we came to the conclusion that the tape we send them was reused and the b-side still had the demo of a band on it that used the same studio that we did. The B-side was the side they listened to so nobody had heard our music (side A) before we got on stage! In all honesty, we would never have got to play the main stage if they did. It was a great experience.

A friend of mine who owns a studio in my area once brought Tom Waits to see my band. Tom faxed the studio owner that we were HOT. Then I got called by Tom Waits to work ideas for one of his records (Bone Machine) though I didn't get to record on the record. I was age 25 and really didn't have a good clue of his history. Opportunity blown but lesson learned...

I think for The Mystery Men?, it'd have to be last September when we made our 3rd trip up to Indianapolis to play our 3rd Madeira CD release show where Ivan made a point early in their set to pay our band one of the most mindbogglingly amazing compliments imaginable. I think our 5 jaws are still dragging along the floor of the Melody Inn. Talk about inspiration!

Way back in 2000, we (The Torquays) were asked to play at yet another "Rat Fink Reunion". We had played at 2 or 3 before that, but this one was special as we were told that they wanted to film us for a documentary film about the life of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. The morning of the event, we met Mr. Roth and discovered that he was wearing an almost identical red jacket as ours. The show went well and it just so happens that they had us play "Ghost Riders" about 9 or 10 times, filming us from all sorts of angles.
Ed "Big Daddy" Roth passed away the next year.
We were indeed honored to have been there for his final Rat Fink Reunion.

Reluctant Aquanauts got to do the WGN morning show years ago. At the time it was a very early morning.

Not a gig, but I had a youtube video up of me playing some ragtime guitar. I worked Saturdays at a music store at the time. One day one of the instructors told me a guy came in and said "you have to see this video, check this guy out". The instructor says, not only have I seen the video, that guy is from here and works here on Saturdays! Made me feel pretty good, and the guy was blown away by the coincidence.

The Guess Who opened for US!
Well, they played before us. We came on after. It was 4th of July (aren't the Guess Who from Canada?). Fireworks started right as we did. We had a great view. So did the audience as they turned their backs to us to watch the fireworks for the entire first set. Then when the fireworks were over, they all left.
Um, I mean,
The Guess Who opened for US!
Then there was the dance band I was in where a very attractive young lady got up on stage and danced while we played. Sans
