old thread, newer member...

I have used the Mustang IV for a few years now since I too got tired of lugging around heavy tube amps.

It sounds great. I won't even throw in the "for a modeling solid state...". It just sounds great. I use the Twin setting pretty much exclusively.

It's not built for the road; mine is beat up and the fake vinyl tolex has many scratches and tears. I'm surprised the handle hasn't fallen off. And the rubber buttons are losing their responsiveness, I have to mash them down sometimes now.

But for the sound, hey. I think the trick is to stay away from the presets. They have "basic" amp settings and those work best, without trying to get too cute with the setup. But by using the FUSE software you can dial in pretty much anything.

How's my old jag treating you Mitch?

Having fun with it! I put 12 flatwounds on it, and it sounds great through the Mustang IV as well. I'm still a strat guy, but this one is a lot of fun and will make an appearance on all recordings here on out.

Great to hear and glad you like it. If you look at the switches in the pic you can see that I taped them off during shows. Thrashy boy has a tendency to turn himself off right in the middle of a song.
