Hi!
After playing tube amps for a while, I went a little further - meet the home-built, single ended 11W Class A Stereo that now powers my old Bang&Olufsen Beovox 2400 ... Very Happy

Hi!
There is voodoo to tube stereo, but it sounds very good and clear actually. It is also very, very loud for 11 W and 20 W boxes ,,,

El-B,

Nice, very nice. Looking at the chassis are you contemplating "push pull?"

ed

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Single Ended ... Push Pull ... I am still contemplating getting a green energy Z certificate ;)

But it is a single ended class A amp ...

Wow those blue lights take me back to the big hi-fi consoles our parents had(with built in reverb). Well done Wolfi. What is this Z certificate you speak of?

http://www.reverbnation.com/thegreasemonkeyz

hi!

the certificate is a joke - in the EU, we have this energy efficacy rating for electrical appliances, but also buildings and so on (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Performance_Certificate)... A+++ is best and so on ...

given the fact that a class a amp has a degree of efficiency of 6 % - plus the fact that I will now also add a rather pointless circuit with an additional effective draw of ~50 W, I tend to think that this certification process would yield a z--- rating Very Happy

It's a thing of beauty anyway. Tell the moral busybodies to pound sand.
Cool

... there is also another positive sideeffect - the heating cost in my living room is definitely reduced!!!

Absolutely! Warm glass is a wonderful thing. Did you develop this circuit yourself, or did you have an online source for the project?

hi!
no, i did not develop it myself - the amp is a kit from a guy that also made the transformers. however, Class A amps were probably finally developed around 1910 and have changed very little ever since, so there is no black magic in that circuit. the costly part is the transformers. unfortunately, the guy who sent me the boards and transformers was doing a one-man company, and he died suddenly. so wiring the transformer was a bit of a challenge as i had no schematic Smile

the EM84 circuit is from ebay and costs about 5€ - http://www.ebay.at/itm/Magic-Eye-Tube-6E2-EM84-VU-Meter-Audio-Level-Indicator-Board-One-6E2-tube-/131590534397?hash=item1ea36834fd:g:P4UAAOSwsB9WAq1K ...
the power circuit consists of a little toroidal transformer (also from ebay) with 180V AC and 6.3 V / 1.5 A AC. the grid voltage is rectified, goes into the capacitor is further stabilized by a chain of zener-diodes and a FET. the filament voltage is simply rectified without further ado ...

still looking for a tube driven phono-preamp kit - any suggestions :D?

Thanks for the info.

Sigh No suggestions on the phono pre-amp... maybe someone out there has carved up an old McIntosh into a set of projects.

Two surfy bear fet amps in a box for a phono pre amp?

http://www.reverbnation.com/thegreasemonkeyz

hum - even 2 surfy bears will not serve as integrators, which renders their usability for RIAA-type signals doubtful Very Happy

but i found this one, which looks quite nice - http://glass-ware.stores.yahoo.net/aiphpcb.html
