Permalink How about an NSSR European Classic Instrumental Top 60?

New Topic

It says it in the title really.

There's a lot out there - more instrumental than "surf", but would people be interested?

Would we find 60?

I would

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Yeah, but then you'd just have 50+ Shadows songs! Twisted Evil

J/K, I think that's a great idea! There were Shadows-inspired (and some pre-Shadows) bands in every European country, both west and east. It would be very cool.

Great idea!
If you look a bit further than the Shadows, there is enough out there. There are some great British and French instrumental compilations. In the Netherlands (and in Germany) the indo-rock scene of the late fifties and early sixties was very popular. Bands like the Tielman brothers played mostly instrumentals in the beginning of their careers.

Personally I'd rather have a contemporary European list.

Even better idea. That would make a lot more sense with the active Euro community there is. Get the gears and cogs in motion.

I'm not the one who makes these decisions, obviously.

There's room for a Brussels joke here:) I will abstain though.

Two Norwegian instro pioneers (Shadows band).
Svein Finjarn, the guitarist of The Beatniks bought the first Fender Stratocaster ever sold in Norway as late as 1962, import restrictions after WWII finally opened up and american instruments/Fender equipment got available through Hagström Musikk in Oslo. Different times for sure!

The Quivers - Piken i Dalen - 1961
The Beatniks - Istanbul - 1963

Palms need greasing, brown envelopes need filling...

hi!
I would suggest a compilation of 60s instro rather than a list, with a look on variety ... my 2 cents are here - Vienna, 1965 ...

and here - maybe not guitar instro directly - but it deserves special mentioning for being very wacky ... czechoslowakia 1963, an ode to satan in the heavens ...

I would say, not another Topsomething list.

I would be more interested in some kind of band/album specials from several DJs. I would like to do a special about Mark Brodie for example or Sebastian Hartmann aka Kahuna Kawentzmann or Lorenzo Surfer Joe! I guess a few DJs would be interested to do a Bambi M. special? There are a lot of cool surf bands with more than one album.

Twang cheers!

Of course, all the DJS are always free to do specials of this type. I did a Bambi Molesters special to mark their 20th anniversary and another where I only played versions of Apache (which was less boring than you might imagine).
