Permalink Just got the tank!

Okay the re-issue tank has arrived, I just pulled it out of the box, and am going to set it up. I will report back later. If anyone wants to give me suggestions for setting the knobs for a killer surf sound im all ears.

More to come later.

The most common is 6-6-6. Without the 6k6 tube (in place of the 6v6), though, you may want to roll the tone back a bit.

The Disasternauts

Also 7-7-7.
Don't remember what I used before I switched the tubes.
Enjoy,
Ran

Make sure the transport lock thing is unlocked! Shocked

Brian what the hell does that mean???? Please clarify.

So far this thing sounds amazing. Really great reverb sounds. The high ends seem a bit piercing, that is my only complaint. However, now i know what reverb really is.

There is a little metal arm at the bottom that is used to push the pan against some foam padding to protect the pan during transport. Make sure this is not engaged when you play or else you will get much less reverb. Doesn't the manual mention this?

Swap out the power tube (6v6) for a 6k6 tube, you'll find it'll soften the highs and smoothen out the tone in general (at least it did to my ears).

Brain, the manual does not mention this,

how small is this arm? All i see back there is a piece of metal in the shape of a J. One side is bottled down to the bottom with a skrew.

Is this what you are talking about??? Sorry to sound like a dumbass, I really have no clue, the Fender box didnt include much of a manual.

Yeah, sounds like it. It shouldn't be screwed down...you should be able to slip it sideways a little then you can push it forward or back.

That sounds like it. Just unscrew it from the bottom and i'll release the pan. You might want to save it and not throw it away like I did. Crying
It can come in handy for transporting.

Don't unscrew it. Just loosen it slightly so you can move the arm back and forth. When you push it forward it pushed the springs against a foam pad and when you pull it back it all the springs to vibrate more getting a better reverb sound.

the "transport-pan-lock-slider" is the j-shaped metal device visible in the left hand port in the photo above. The slider holds the reverb pan against the front of the chasis during transport...keeps the pan and springs from clanking around too much when you drive over the railroad tracks and potholes etc...the slider is held to the bottom of the chasis with a screw, this screw should be somewhat loose in order for the transport bar to be able to slide forward and back...(hey, didn't the original tank have a "winged" hold down screw to facilitate hand loosening and tightening?)

during play, the slider should be disengaged (slid to rear of chasis) in order to fully free the pan on its spring mounts.

Stigger,

Butch has it correct, find and obtain at least one 6K6 tube, and yank out that 6V6. Try to get at least one spare, but if you're gonna keep this puppie, locate and secure two or three of them, and squirrel them away for the future. Very Happy If you run across an armful, buy them all, then turn around and offer some of those for sale here! Laughing There are very few other parts in the entire box that are not the same value as the original circuit from 1961. This tube is the major change, so if you can 'revert' to the originally-called-for tube, you're in-like-Flynn!

The lock-down "J bar" is supposed to be slide easily, and it should have a "hook" in the slot that slides past the screw. When you push it in, you move the bar towards the center of the cabinet, and that should prevent the bar from sliding back out as you travel down the road. When you get to your gig, you push forward slightly, then left, then release it (or pull it) so that the pan is freed from the shock absorbing material.

unlunf

p.s. Don't sell the 6V6 until you get at least one spare 6K6!

Congrats on the tank, man!

Here's where I got mine -

Congrats on the tank, btw.

Is it safe to just swap the 6V6 for a 6K6, you don't need to modify any of the internal electronics at all?

I'll have to give that a try...
