I just joined the forum, been lurking for the past year after rekindling my interest in instrumental surf rock. I've been incorporating a bit of the influence into other genres of music the past few years, but this is my first attempt at writing something completely in the style. It's super rough, I'm primarily a bassist and I just recorded takes while I was writing and added more tracks afterward. I already have ideas of how I want to rearrange things, possibly add more and been practicing the riffs to play them a lot more smoothly, but I wanted to post my first rough attempt and share it anyway.

Corey,
Welcome to SG101 and nice job on the tune.
What additional ideas do you hear for the arrangement?

Cheers,
Jeff

Cool

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Jeff, I was considering adding some organ, changing around the length and order of some of the transition/turnaround parts. I'd like to flesh out the second guitar track a bit, so it's not just unison on that chorus type part in the middle. Same with the bass. I was also thinking about adding another part, bridge/solo section maybe. I need to work on my lead guitar skills.

Then again, maybe just practice it a bunch, polish it up and record it again, then on to another one. I wanted to give writing some surf rock a shot and just get something done. I did all of it on new years eve, between 9 and midnight.

Very cool tune! Thumbs Up Glad you joined the forum.

Great way to start out the new year corey! Welcome to the forum.

BTW: Surfer Joe (Lorenzo) himself is in from Italy and playing a gig in Santa Cruz on 1/19 at The Crows Nest.

I'm glad to get such positive feedback, I was nervous to show off my first crack at writing a song in this style, especially with so much talent on this forum. I still need a lot of practice to hone my guitar playing. I'll have to look up coming shows in Santa Cruz. That's where all the nearest good live music is anyway, I should try to catch more shows this year. Always tough with a toddler at home though.

If you do make it don't be bashful, introduce yourself to the bands. Also, this may be something worth planning for...

They haven't updated the website yet, this year's dates are 7/7-7/10.

Welcome to surf Corey. You are lucky to be in an area where you can take advantage of shows and with SG 101 you have direct communication with people that write, record and perform the genre everyday. These great musicians make our genre what it is GREAT!
