This Sunday we will be doing it for the third time! Right after Christmas we will broadcast the best 202 tracks in surf music as chosen by you during the Classic Surf Top 101 and the Surf Revival Top 101.

A record number of people have emailed us with their personal Top 10 and sent in a minblowing total of 444 tracks for the Classic Surf Top 101 and 912 tracks for the Surf Revival Top 101. Needless to say the results are spectacular! The Classic Surf Top 101 has 7 brand new entries and the Surf Revival Top 101 has a record number of 17 new entries of which the highest entry at an astonishing #44 position.

Will "Pipeline" by The Chantays retain it's #1 position in the Classic list for the third year in a row?

Will "The Bells Of St. Kahuna" by Slacktone still be #1, will "Intruder" by The Surf Coasters retake the #1 position they lost last year or will another track take the top position in the Revival list?

It warms my heart to see The Penetrators finally get a track into the Revival Top 101! Their “Locked & Loaded” album has been hovering near the album top 10 for a couple of years, so it makes sense for them to have at least one track make the list. I'm looking forward to finding out which one(s?).

On the Classic Surf side, it will be interesting to see what impact this year's release of “The Birth of Surf, Vol. 3” will have on the list. What impact does a new high profile compilation have as far as introducing tracks to a wider audience? Will songs already on last year's list move higher in the rankings? Will any tracks from the album make a debut?

And speaking of the ACE “The Birth of Surf” series, two thoughts:

1) With 444 classic tracks receiving votes, that means there would need to be at least 14 more volumes added to the series to include them all. We should be so lucky! (Are you listening ACE?)

2) I can't help but mentally include ACE's excellent “Toes on the Nose: 32 Surf Age Instrumentals” in my mental list of “The Birth of Surf” compilations. I keep wanting to give it the designation “The Birth of Surf, Vol. 0”, because it was released before Vol. 1, or, because it doesn't contain any “proto-surf” or “Pipeline”, “Mr. Moto”, or any Dick Dale, maybe the designation should be “Vol. 1.5”. But that's just me and my fascination with lists. In any event, if you already own Vols. 1 – 3 and DON'T have “Toes on the Nose”, for Pete's sake, get it!
